This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show Tuesday, December 12 Do not feel well but have been buisy all day at telephone or house work. Attended R.S. meeting. Lesson on parables of the Bible given by Mrs Thorstensen. A cold day but sunshine. Took several orders for History book. Gale driven snow storm kills 67 in U.S. and Canada. Sink, severely damage 10 Vessels, destroy 50 planes, Reserves; B29 Raids over Tokyo. Wednesday, December 13 Dr and I have colds, so we missed going to the Community Concert tonight and retired early for a change. I have done baking and iorning and been on the phone most of the day taking orders for Beneath Ben Lomans Peak. Feel quite encouraged as have had orders for 140 books. Have received quite a number of Xmas cards. Seventh Army plunges 6 mi in 30 hr. to enter Seltz; 3 Army invades easter Saar; and the 1st Army captures eight towns near Duren. Civilians fleeing Tokyo. Super fortresses fly over Thursday, December 14 Recd Cablegram that Junior had landed safely in Pacific Farr East War Theater. Very happy to get this word. He cannot say just where he is Located. Have sent out quite a number of Christmas cards & letters. Wrote Taylor, Thair Junior all over seas. My cold better. We later learned he did not go this route. Safe Arrival Made After Long Trip Dec 15 1944 A cable has been received from Major Junior Edward Rich, stating he has arrived safely at a base in the south Pacific after a flight from Florida to South America, across the Atlantic, Africa, Arabia, and India. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Edward I. Rich, 2475 Jefferson. Friday, December 15 Have had Mrs Yono help me clean well downstairs. Knife & fork Club meets at Ben Loman Hotel to hear Lewis Browne. We have tickets but decided to go over to Weber College to hear Walter Duranty on Russia He says the English people are strongly pro. Russian more so than the Americans. |
