This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show Sunday, January 19 Jan 18 Another patient of Drs died of heart (acute) trouble this morning. She was a daughter of Tom Foley who died quite a few years ago. Jan 19 Dr Frank W. Baker is 83 yr old today is quite feeble and lives alone at present Dr Edward brought him over for a nice dinner which I prepared and the three of us enjoyed it. Dr Baker stayed until four P.M. Dr & I slept late this morning and did not go to S.S. Drs cold still quite miserable tho he made two calls & this evening visited the 19th Ward as he had some business there Monday, January 20 Was delighted to receive a letter from our son Thair who is in Austria. It brought good news. That he may be home in Feb. Cloteel & Ruth came home to L.A. Calif 27 of Dec. He helped us to understand why. I shall not worry. He has done splendid work & service over seas for 38 months & is very anxious to return home now as Gen Mark Clark who ask for him in Vienna is soon to take Charge of 6th Army at San Francisco Calif. I have done Laundry & iorning, baked bread etc. Refused invitation to Girl Scout banquet Also to Party honoring Olive Christensen who has retired as R.S. Stake Pres. of S Ogden Stake Tuesday, January 21 I went to Salt Lake this morning with Cleone R. Eccles. We called to see Janath Carmon but found she will return home tomorrow from the hospital. She & Baby Ann are doing nicely. News tells of Pres. Charles Collis death. This afternoon Cleone E Yates & I went to Kingsbury Hall to see the Passion Play. Josef Meier as Christus. The Black Hills Passon Play assisted by a huge cast. The pageantry was beautiful and acting very fine. I felt well repaid forgoing down. Lynn Rich Juniors dau. went with her school from Ogden Wednesday, January 22 I have not visited DUP Camp today. This evening Dr & I attended a lecture on China by Dr. No Yong Park a Chinese of same note. Very good enjoyed all she said. He is the writer of Making a New China a Chinamans Chance & Retreat of the West |
