Show Wednesday, November 19 Have spent most of this month writing 40 pages of my own history but seem to have misplaced it. Surely hope I can find it as it would seem very hard to write it over doubt if I could do it over as well Dr assured me it was very good had written up to the time I was about to get married. Thursday, November 20 Joel R. Parrish, Leader In Bank Circles, Dies Nov. 22 1947 CENTERVILLE Joel Rich Parrish, 66, prominent Utah banker who served as chief examiner for the Reconstruction Finance Corporation in Washington, D. C., for 10 years, died at 9:15 a.m. today at his home of cerebral hemorrhage following a long illness. Mr. Parrish was born March 11. 1887. in Centerville, a son of Samuel Joel and Caddie Rich Parrish. A graduate of the University of Utah, he taught in the Bountiful Stoker School for two years. After filling a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints in England he was appointed principal of the school, a position he held for two years. He married Ivah Nathalia Steed May 6. 1907, in the Salt Lake Temple. Prominent in Banking: Mr. Parrish was cashier of the Farmers Stake Bank from the time it was organized in 1909 to 1932, when he accepted the position with the finance corporation. He was in charge of flood and disaster loans, with offices in Paducah and Ashlamp. Ky. In 1942 he returned to Utah because of ill health. Past president and vice president of the American Bankers Association of Utah, Mr. Parrish served on various committees of the Salt Lake chapter, American Institute of Utah. He was on the executive committee of the Utah Bankers association, executive secretary treasurer of the Davis County Banking Association and filled a three year term on the national council of the American Institute of Banking. Served in Legislature In 1925. Mr. Parrish was elected to the Utah state Legislature, filling one term. Under Gov. George H. Dern he served on the governors commission to investigate flood and range control in the state. He served as chairman of the ways and means committee for the commission when it wrote and recommended a new law for publilc control of land. In 1931 he was appointed by the governor to be a member of the land commission in charge of range and flood control. He was president of the Davis County Taxpayers Association for some time. Mr Parrish was a member of the Sunday School superintendency of South Davis Stake, Sunday School superintendent in Centerville Second Ward and a high councilman in South Davis Stake. Survivors include his widow; three sons, Joel Samuel Parrish, Centerville; J. Wayne Parrish, Washington, D. C., and LaMar S. Parrish, Kaysville, and four grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. BANKER DIES Joel Rich Parish was prominent in state and national banking groups. |
