This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show SATURDAY…….February 16, 1957 Beautiful day. I have been home all day except for walk and trip to the market with Cleone Taylor and David after breakfast have visited Relatives and Taylor attended a business meeting of the Peery Estate and they have enjoyed themselves. They came home about 6 - 30 pm and we had supper here and then they went to see Alameda Newman Peery - widow of John Taylor - Taylors brother. We retire early SUNDAY…….February 17, 1957 Beautiful day. Taylor Peery and his son David went to Provo early this morning after a goodnight’s sleep and breakfast Glad to have visit with them I attended Ward Priesthood meeting and High Priests class and Sunday School and Gospel doctrine class Had nice dinner at Cleones Royals attended evening meeting at Mt Ogden Ward with Bishop John Shaw and spoke briefly. Called at Bro Shaw home after meeting to see their new baby girl. Listened to 64000 question contest at home later. Very good Retire at 10 p.m. MONDAY……..February 18, 1957 Beautiful day + 55o in mid day I have been home +40o last night I have been home all day except for trip down to Larkin’s Mortuary to see remains at Viewing previous to funeral of Sister Hinckley - a good woman age about 81. Have read some and listened to T.V. ‘21’ game, Chas Von Darm has now $13400.00 to his credit. Biggest on record. Recd letter from Fey H. Walker of Raymond Alberta and I wrote to him about taxes on farm, Recd card from Myrene & Joe from Las Vegas Nev. on their way to Los Angeles to see their son Edward Rich Brewer & Wife Listened to T.V. Gene Fullmer & Ernie Durando fight at Denver 10 round non title. Fullmer’s now Middle Weight Champion. Fullmer won by a unanimous decision. Good fight. Went all ten rounds. TUESDAY…….February 19, 1957 Another beautiful day This afternoon Cleone took me over to St Benedict’s Hospital where we called on D’orr Cozzens who was operated for bladder trouble three days ago. He is not feeling very frisky, but we hope he will be O.K. In time a good man. A nephew of my dear Wife. Later Cleone and I called on Mrs Fred Arnold age 91 and Mrs Elizabeth Thomas age 89 another good woman - at one time a counselor in the Presidency of the Ogden Stake Relief Society Presidency with my dear wife who was President. Geo Q. Rich ii called to see me and he is active in the Church - L.D.S - Was is fine good man. His wife died in 1956 |
