Description	This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins.

OCR Text	Show Mrs. Reed H. Richards … Wins award from magazine. Ex-Salt Laker Wins Title as 'Lady of '56' Tribune Washington Bureau WASHINGTON, D.C. — Mrs. Reed H. Richards, formerly of Salt Lake City, Sunday was named "U.S. Lady of the Year" in the first annual award by U.S. Lady, a magazine for wives of Armed Forces personnel. Mrs. Richards is the wife of Col. Reed H. Richards, Salt Lake attorney now stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., as inspector general of the 2nd Logistical Command. She is a daughter of Mr. and . Mrs. George R. Pyper, 829 . Browning Ave. (1400 South), Salt Lake City. Selection Board The selection was made by a board composed of the wives of the secretaries of Defense, Army, Navy, Air Force, the commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In November 1955 Mrs. Reed was featured by the magazine ; as its "U.S. Lady of the Month." An artillery officer in World War II, Col. Richards was " called back to active duty in 1950. The couple has seven adopted children, including five of different nationalities. Basis of Award The award is given to the woman judged outstanding ' among wives of members of the Armed Forces, Alvadee Adams, magazine editor, explained. Mrs. Richards will be honored Monday with a conducted tour of the White House and as guest at a luncheon given by Mrs. Wilber M. Brucker, wife of the Army secretary. She also will meet with Sen. Wallace F. Bennett (R-Utah).
