This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show Warm day 80o SATURDAY…….September 28, 1957 I have been home all day except for brief walk over to the store No one has called except Dr Jr called this afternoon for short time I have read most of the day Had brief nap in afternoon Retire early. Nothing special I called mission home in Salt Lake on phone, to tal with David Peery but he had left for his mission on 25th inst. Sorry I did not get to see him again, before he left SUNDAY 91o this p.m. hottest on read for this 7 year September 29, 1957 Warm beautiful day I attended ward Priesthood meeting and gave the ward Teachers lesson for Oct and attended Sunday School Had nice dinner with Dr Jr and Blanche Dr Jr and I went out to air port to see jet planes perform. Came home and had nap. Dr Fred Matthies and Clare his wife called this evening. Lyman Rich called me from Logan this evening about Family business. I have been lonesome this evening before Dr Matthies & Clare called wrote to Mary and Clare Hardy my great grand daughter in Wash D.C. who is 15 years of age to day. Retire at 10 pm Hottest afternoon on record for this time of the year. MONDAY…...September 30, 1957 Nice day Temp 90o Recd card from Cleone saying she will be here next Wednesday. Oct 2 night I have been home all day until this evening I went over to Dr Fred & Clare Matthies for dinner and spent evening over there. Also recd card from Adam Patterson and wife Norma from Italy. Stanley Rich called to see me to day I have read to day considerable Boy cut lawn and I watered it this evening Myrene put up some fruit for me. Dear girl TUESDAY Temp 90o to day October 1, 1957 Nice day - some thunder and looks like rain tonight. Myrene and I went up and visited Dr and Mrs Dr W.H. Petty in their Canyon home. They have sold their home in Los Angeles and moved back to Ogden Both are quite old and not very well Have come back to Ogden among their friends to die here where they lived so long Lyman H Rich called to see me this evening. A splendid man I am reading “Cherished Experiences” Events in life of President DO McKay & Miss Middlemiss his secretary - Very good Read letter from Avon and card from Cleone Cleone will be home tomorrow from Wash D.C. where she has been for the past three weeks to help Maren (Mrs Ralph W Hardy whose husband died here aug Aug 5th this year |
