Ogden Standard Exam 1C - 57 S.L. Woman Named Utah's 1957 'Mother' SALT LAKE CITY (AP)—A granddaughter of Brigham Young who is the mother of nine children was named Utah's Mother of the Year today. She is Mrs. A. E. Curtis of Salt Lake City, chosen from 12 contestants by the Utah Mothers Committee. Mrs. Myrtle Farns- worth Christenson, widow of the late Judge A. H. Christenson, was chosen as alternate. Mrs. Curtis has held many positions in the Latter-day Saints Church and Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She also was the first woman ever elected to the Salt Lake Board of Education. She has served as a member of the governor's Advisory Committee on Liquor and on the governor's committee to investigate hospitals. She is the vice president and director of several business firms and is a member of the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce. In addition to all her outside activities, Mrs. Curtis' children hold important positions in their communities.
