This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show Temp last night 38o 62o in day SUNDAY…….October 6, 1957 Nice clear day, but rather cool about 60o I went to Ward Priesthood meeting and Sunday School. Went over to Jae’s & Myrene’s for nice dinner. Janath and Ted Cannon and Children came up in the afternoon a dear little family 3 boys and 2 girls No one else to Royal and Cleone called this afternoon. Beautiful sight tonight as full moon came over tops of the mountains No Killing frost yet and recent heavy rain did much good. I have read some. Lonesome this evening Good T.V. Program $64,000 Challenge This is Richard Taylor Peerys 19th birthday son of Hr Taylor Hue Mary Rich Peerys MONDAY…...October 7, 1957 Nice day. Little cooler last night, but no frost. I have been home all day except brief walk with Cleone. Recd a letter from Ally Cozzens from San Francisco. She is there with her son who is studying Dentistry. She is tending the baby while the mother works. She is a good mother. He son Charles is studying Dentistry in San Francisco I have carefully read and corrected ten chapters of my biography to day. Dr Jr called. Nothing special. Considerable talk and excitement about satelite the Russians have created or launched into space TUESDAY…...October 8, 1957 Nice day. Andria Rich Walkins and Ida Rich Strong, daughters of Ben L Rich and Nina Farr and Mrs Nicholas Smith called on me just before noon and I went with them and visited John Farr and Asael Farr and drove up the Canyon and had lunch. Andria is the wife of Senator Watkins and Ida is wife of the little Atty Alvin Strong. Their mother was a daughter of Lorin Farr the first mayor of Ogden. This evening Cleone took me down to the mortuary to view the remains of Joseph B Foullger who has been an invalid for 15 years and entirely helpless for past 7 years - a good man A great care for his good dear wife. He was a great care. Perfectly helpless for 7 years - paralysis. Recd letter from Nancy Peery - a daughter of our Mary in Palo Alto - California age 16 - dear girl. WEDNESDAY…...October 9, 1957 Nice warm day 75o Sunshine I have been home all day reviewing and correcting my biography in minor details. Went for short ride with Cleone This evening Taylor surprized me by visiting me for a day or two. He is here on business. I am very pleased to see him. He reports all well with Mary and Family Nothing special otherwise Recd letter from Lyman Rich from Logan. |
