This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show TUESDAY…….April 9, 1957 My 89th birthday. A happy gathering at Cleones & Royals this evening. Nice dinner and all near by adult Relatives present Many gifts and a happy evening All our children except Cal Thair present. Mary and Avon & June came from California. Royald & Cleone Joe and Myrene. Dr Jr and Blanche Dr Helen Hancock & Lucile. All our GrandSon in Laws and their Wives in this district and Salt Lake and several of young people in the Family. Lyman Rich and Zula and Hazel Shepherd. Bro Wm Schuda called Recd many cards and congratulation on phone. Happy day Ralph Hardy celebrated from Chicago WEDNESDAY…..April 10, 1957 Ogden Utah Nice day. Temp 70o 40o at night June and Avon went to Salt Lake this a.m. and will start home (Los Angeles) tomorrow Mary and I took ride in Dr Jr new Cad. Car. Visited the cemetery and placed flowers on Mothers (Myras) and Oertel’s graves. Rode around town some. We have read some and I watered lawn Mary went over to Dr Jr’s Recd dear letters from Maren Hardy and all the dear children and also Letter from other friends. Recd telegram from Bob and Cleone Yeates from Cal Have enjoyed quiet visit with our dear Mary Cleone and Myrene called also Dr Jr THURSDAY…...April 11, 1957 Nice day, Sharon Dr Lewis’ wife birth day 28 years old Mary Taylor Peery’s wife and I went up to Graycliff with Dr Jr & Blanche and Lynn & Dr Lewis & Sharon and had nice dinner and then had pleasant evening at Dr Jr’s home. Cleone, Myrene, Mary and I drove up to Logan. Had lunch at Blue Bird and then back to Ogden I am rather tired tonight. Mary talked with her son David on phone. He is at BYU in Provo. I am having nice visit with Mary. Recd card Birthday card from Jefferson Meders Alumni Association for my 89th birthday FRIDAY…..April 12, 1957 Nice day, Got income tax filed up to day with help of Clyde Grex. Taylor Peery - our Son in Law - and his sons David and Richard and daughter Nancy arrived here this p.m. David is Student at BYU at Provo and the others flew from Palo Alto Cal to day. David met them at Air port in Salt Lake and they all came up here to visit us. Myrene and Joe Brewer took them up to GrayCliff in Ogden Canyon for dinner this evening. Mary and I had nice visit here this forenoon. Dr Jr came over this evening. Brother Lyman Hess died here to day - a good faithful man Joe & Myrene took Taylor & Mary and Family and Myself up to GrayCliff lodge for dinner and nice spent evening here after returning |
