Rogers Location: Browning Center, Room 415 Telephone: 626-6424 The School of Arts and Humanities offers comprehensive programs encompassing the visual and performing arts, languages, literature, communications, and mathematics. The programs of the School are designed to help students gain a thorough understanding of their cultural and aesthetic heritage, and to prepare them for employment opportunities that will take advantage of the special skills developed through rigorous study of the the humanities. The educational and cultural programs of the departments are available to both major and non-major students. Students may take departmental or teaching majors and minors for a Baccalaureate Degree in the following fields: Majors Art Photography Communications English Foreign Languages Mathematics Music Theatre Arts Minors Art Photography Communications English Foreign Languages Mathematics Music Theatre Arts Students may take composite teaching majors in the following fields: (For program descriptions see the section - Composite Teaching Majors) Art Composite Communication and English Composite Communication Emphasis Communication and Theatre Arts Composite- Communication Emphasis English and Communication Composite English Emphasis English and Theatre Arts Composite - English Emphasis Mathematics and Physical Science Composite Music Composite Theatre Arts and Communication Composite-Theatre Arts Emphasis Theatre Arts and English Composite-Theatre Arts Emphasis. Students may take the Associate of Applied Science Degree from the Department of Art in Graphic Design, which is a two-year program oriented toward job entry. The School of Arts and Humanities works closely with the School of Education in preparing students for teaching majors and minors and composite teaching majors. Students should consult departmental listings in the School of Arts and Humanities and in the School of Education for specific requirements for majors and minors. The curriculum of the School of Arts and Humanities is enriched by special lectures, exhibitions, dramatic and musical productions. Description The Department of Art offers a variety of programs to meet the varied needs of the art major and non-art major student. Programs leading to the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees are offered for the person seeking to become an art teacher, a commercial artist in the areas of graphic design or illustration, a photographer with an art background, or an artist with an emphasis in one or more of the following areas: drawing, painting, print-making, ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, and weaving. Associate of Applied Science degrees are offered in commercial photography and visual communications/design. Recognition of the importance of the visual arts is increasing. Many art majors realize the satisfaction of personal creativity and are able to influence the visual environment of our technological society. Non-art majors find rewarding experiences in art that satisfy their creative needs in both general education classes and the art studio classes where personal and creative experiences are provided. |
