This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show THURSDAY….January 3, 1957 Nice day. A little colder 38o to day 20o last night. I went to Salt Lake with Myrene to day. Called at Bank ate lunch with Janath and Ted Cannon Visited new Union building at U of U a wonderful building a two million dollar job. Visited Nina Nelson an old Lady at Holy Cross Hospital. She is a sister of David Rich’s wife - a good old lady from Bear River County. Box Elder Co. old and very sick She has been in an old folks home for some time. Came home about 6 p.m. quite tired Took some picture down to President D.O. McKay Recd steel engraving from Lewis Rich G in New York to day all O.K. FRIDAY…….January 4, 1957 About 5 inches of light snow last night. Nice day to day I have been home all day until this afternoon Cleone came up and helped put xmas decorations etc away and fred up the house and then drove down to Post Office where I mailed my M.S. Biography to Avon in Los Angeles to have it edited Cle and me went down town and did little shopping and called to see Mrs DR Wheelwright who is sick - a good woman and longtime friend I have read some and thought much of Oertel and my dear Wife. Recd nice letter from Stanley Rich from Montpelier Idaho Wrote to Avon. Snow has all gone off down town Temp 20o last night 30o to day SATURDAY…..January 5, 1957 Cloudy this evening and a little sprinkle of snow. I have been home all day Cleone and Myrene called, Also Gladys Rich (Dr Ezra’s daughter) called this afternoon. She lives in Los Angeles. I enjoyed her visit Nothing special. Recd nice letters from Stanley Rich from Montpelier Idaho Fred Price and his wife Gertrude Rich Price and Andrie Rich Watkins wife of Senator Arthur V Watkins - Utah Senator - Now in Wash D.C. I listened to T.V. President Eisenhower’s Eisenhower’s address to Congress at 10-30 am - Wonderful Truly a great man and we are fortunate in having him as our President at this time Three years ago to night my dear Wife was taken sick and this was her last night sent in Mortality on earth. She passed from this life Jany 6th 1956 at 12 o clock noon A dear Wife and Mother beloved by all who knew her God bless her memory. SUNDAY…..January 6, 1956 About 2 inches of snow last night I attended Ward Priesthood meeting and Sunday School this a.m. Had nice dinner at Dr Jr’s and Blanches and attended 5 pm Sacrament meeting. Myreme called in the evening - a dear girl. My dear wife passed to the “Great beyond” three years ago to day at 12 noon - a terrible blow to me I have thought much about her the past few day. A dear companion wife and mother. I miss her greatly “Look not mournfully into the past, it comes not back again. Wisely improve the present, it is thine. Go forth to meet the shadowy future without fear and with a manly heart. |
