This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show Temp 20° at night 40° in day time MONDAY…..January 7, 1957 Little snow - one inch last night I listened on T.V. to the inauguration services at the Salt Lake State capital of Governor George Dewey Clyde and the others newly elected state officials. Mayor General Maxwell Rich of the State Natl Guard and Grands Son of my brother Ben E Rich was master of ceremonies and did a good job. Big crowd out. I have read some and wrote a letter to Mis Alice Welling a cousin at Cowley Wyoming. Cleone took me down town and did some shopping and sent W of N policy to Denver to have Bank acct changed since both Myra and Oertel are both dead Retire early. Visited Judge David J Wilson at the Dee Hospital - He had a gastric hemorrhage and is quite weak. Had blood transfusions TUESDAY…...January 8, 1957 TUESDAY…...January 8, 1957 Little sprinkle of snow to day Temp 28o last night 40o to day I have been home all day. Reading most of the time - Book of Mormon 1st Nephi. Myrene came over about noon and brought nice hot lunch - a dear daughter No mail to day - nothing special WEDNESD It never occurs to a boy of 18 that someday he’ll be as dumb as his father. January 9, 1957 Beautiful day. Little snow last night I have been home all day. Myrene and Cleone called and this evening. Dr Jr and Blanche and Cleone called and this evening. Dr Jr and Blanche and Cleone and Royal and Fred Matthies and Claire called and we had nice visit. I listened in the early evening to several nice programs on T.V. Gene Fullmer & Wife and Parents were on T.V. this evening. I haven’t been out of the house to day. I had a boy shovel off the walks. Recd letter from Sharlene Brewer Glasmann from Wash D.C. I wrote to Genl Maxwell E Rich congratulating him on his efficiency as Master of Ceremony at inauguration to Governor and other State officials. TV interviewer to chorus girl: “If you were marooned on a desert island, what would you like to have for reading matter?” Chorus girl: “A tattooed sailor.” THURS nuary 10, 1957 Little colder last night, 7o pm 40o I have been home all day until the pm Cleone took me ride and we called on Sister Dawson age about 82, an old friend and patient of mine. This a.m. I listened over T.V. to President Eisenhower deliver his message to Congress - a wonderful meeting and delivered in a wonderful way. - I also listened to other programs over T.V. Dr Jr called and this evening our Ward Teacher Bro C Austin Shaw and his grand son Johnny Shaw age about 14 visited me great good people. Have nap in afternoon Husband: “Where is all the grocery money going that I gave you?” Wife: “Stand sideways and look in the mirror.” |
