This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Dear girl. Cleone went to Salt Lake with Royal I have read Book of Mormon and papers and listened to T.V. and Radio Recd letter from Cora Woolly Goebel from Los Angeles. Wrote to Avon in Los Angeles. Coal’s Age Oldest coals are about 300,-000,000 years in age; this is, from the time that the plants from which they were formed were living on the earth. ? IN A LAWSUIT in which a printed contract was involved, the defendant stated he hadn’t read the “fine print” in said contract. It was what was in the “fine print” that lost him the case. I always read every word in a printed contract six times. That is except the “fine print” part. I read that 12 times. And with a magnifying glass. SATURDAY…. January 12, 1957 Nice day + 34o am 40o pm I have been home all day and quite lonesome. Have read and took short walk. Recd letters from Ben L Rich Zula Cole (Jennie Flygare Coleman) called on me Wrote short letter to Avon Recd letter from June H Brewer - Rich Brewers wife from 127 Bienna Ventura San Clemente Cal SUNDA Baby Sitter; someone you pay to watch your television set while your kids cry themselves to sleep January 13, 1957 Rain last night and to day Warmer I attended Stake Priesthood meeting at 8 a.m. Ward Priesthood meeting at 9 a.m. Sunday School at 10 to 1045. Had nice dinner at Dr Jrs This is Edward Browning Richs - Dr Jrs son, 22nd birthday - a good fine son I gave him a bible that was presented to me by my dear Mother on my 14th birthday 75 years ago after visiting with Dr Jr and Family I went down to Royal and Cleones for one hour and a half and then came home and have read all the news The Wife of Patriarch Fred M Abbott died to day of a brain hemorrhage - Sick only two days a good woman and the wife of a dear good man. She was aged 74. I feel very great sympathy for Bro Abbott. To day warmest day day in Jany in Utah totay + 50o last night + 40o MON When a man says he’s not getting any fun out of life, you can be sure of one thing: Life isn’t getting any fun out of him, either! January 14, 1957 + Temp 48 Mon + 40 Nice day. Little cloudy I have been home all day until this evening. Myrene and I went over to Lindquists Mortuary to the viewing of Sister Fred M Abbott - wife of Patriarch Fred M Abbot. A good woman and Wife of a good man. She looked nice in her casket.
