This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show TUESDAY…...January 15, 1957 Cleone and I attended the funeral of Patriarch Fred M Abbotts Wife Elizabeth Spencer Abbott who died last Sunday of brain hemorrhage a good woman Large attendance. The balance of the day and evening I have been home Very interesting programs on T.V. I offered the invocation at the funeral of Sister Abbott. Cloudy to day temp about + 40o Weatherman says cooler to night and tomorrow WEDNE The coed said she wanted to be an airline hostess. “You meet a lot of men that way,” she said to her friend. “Yes,” answered the friend, “but wouldn’t you meet as many men doing something else?” “Could be,” said the coed, “but not strapped down.” uary 16, 1957 Temp + 20o + 40 Nice day not very cold skies clear and beautiful. About ½ inch of light snow last night I have been home all day until 4-30 pm Cleone took down to market and Woodys printing shop. Have read some and watched prize fight over T.V. This evening Wrote to Berbers baby food products Co. about food for Triplets in Moscow Idaho Myrene called and had lunch with me and Cleone called and took me down to market later Dear girls Very cold weather East of the Rockies - 55o in N.Y. and up through new England. THURS Fewer Hat Wearers The number of men who wear hats has fallen off from around 80 per cent to about 60 since World War II. uary 17, 1956 Colder to day 20o this morning 30o during day I have been home all day. Reading etc Nothing very special. No one has called except Mrs Odd - woman who cleans the house once a week - Recd card from our daughter Mary Peery and letter from Russell Rich son of Jesse P Rich who is leading at BYU at Provo a fine man. I wrote letter to Gerber food Co about triplets at Moscow Idaho Mis Fred Matthies (Claire Eccles) our grand daughter gave birth to a little girl this evening 7 ½ pounds all fine FRIDAY…...January 18, 1957 Nice day Temp + 18o in morning + 40o day I have been home all day. Cleone and Myrene called & sent one of mothers (mepees) books to daughter of Dudley Jones’ daughter in Kirkland also Mary who will be married in Salt Lake Temple Jany 25th Mr William Duane Winn Dudley Jones is a fine mane, cousin of Almira, I have read som. Three army jet planes completed trip around world non stop fueled 3 times - super Flying at 500 miles per hour total time time for 24325 miles 45 hours and 19 minutes wonderful - Capt JS Bookman 35 of Eden Utah, was among the crewmen of the 3 planes |
