This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

I have been home all day Myrene and Cleone called We attended funeral of sister Abbott wife of Patriarch Fred M Abbott past Tuesday - family Nothing special. I am mixed upon my cloks. 22nd I have been home all day. Cleone & Myrene called. Also Geo Phelps. Recd Biography of Sarah D Pea Rich. Fathers 1st wife from Ida Strong. See Jany 23rd for Jany 22. A preacher recently announced there are 726 sins. He is now being besieged by requests for the list by people who think they are missing something. SUNDAY…..January 20, 1957 Some snow, 3 inches this afternoon and evening. I missed quarterly conference this a.m. I did not feel very well and concluded I better stay home Quite dizzy. I attended picture show with Cleone and Royal yesterday and looked up pictures on screen for three hours and was very dizzy at end of show - and I don’t feel too well to day. I went down to Cleones and Royals for nice dinner and came home at 2 pm and have not been out since. Rosa Nielson May of Salt Lake who was councelor to Myrene called me this afternoon and drove back to Salt Lake in snow storm Myrene called this evening - Dear daughter Retire early Temp + 18o morning + 38o pm clear to night MONDAY…..January 21, 1957 President Dwight Eisenhower was inaugurated President of the U.S. for his second term to day at Washington D.C. He made a wonderful speech and everything went off in good shape. Nice day fortunately little rain in Washington last night and little mist to day, but no real rain. A great and good man, He placed his hand on the Bible over Psalm 33:12 as he took the oath of office. Big parade. I viewed all over T.V. A great and good man God bless him. Also wonderful Richard Nixon I have been all day Cleone called this evening Snowed 4 inches last night and to day Saturday (due to mistake) TUESDAY…...January 19 22, 1957 Nice day temp this am + 20o afternoon + 41o This afternoon I went to the Egyptian Theatre with Royal and Cleone and saw the movey ‘Friendly Persuasion” very good - 3 hours in show I called at Dr Crookstons office and he sealed a tooth that is bothering me some I wrote to Ralph W Hardy Jr - a great grand son in Wash D.C. He was 16 years of age yesterday. He is our oldest great grand son a a wonderful boy. I am quite tired tonight and shall retire early |
