This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show FRIDAY…….May 3, 1957 Nice day. I attended a meeting and luncheon given in honor of Sister Julia Parry on her 86 birthday - a good noble woman. The party was given by the old Relief Society Board of which my dear wife was a member so long. After the dinner we drove out to visit Wicker and Warren and Plain City with Archie McFarland & Wife. I was quite tired when we got home. Recd card from Cleone and Royal from Wash D.C. They will leave Washington this evening for home and shall arrive Sunday evening via Ry. Nothing special Ms DR Wheelwright - a dear friend died this a.m. of cerebral hemorrhage - stroke - a dear good woman and lifelong friend. SATURDAY…….May 4, 1957 Nice day Temp on my porch 80o I have been home all day except for brief ride with Myrene Chase Rich and his wife from Pingree - dear Blackfoot Idaho called to see me this afternoon and they brought me a wonderful big trout - a wonderful fish, We had nice visit. They are splendid people. All of their six children are married - in the Temple and not one smokes or uses liquor in any form I gave them one of my dear wife’s Biographies which they appreciated. Have read some and wrote letter to Ralph W Hardy. His birthday will be may 6th. He lives in Wash D.C. and married Maren Eccles - daughter of Royal & Cleone I am tired tonight and retire early, I had man working in garden to day Recd picture of Bjornn triplets to day The only triplets ever born in Rich family so far as known. Recd letter from Mary - our daughter SUNDAY…….May 5, 1957 Beautiful day I attended ward Priesthood meeting and Sunday School. Had nice dinner at Joe & Myrene Brewers at 6 p.m. Myrene and I went down to mortuary to view remains of Sister D.R. Wheelwright and then to Roy Station to meet Cleone and Royal Eccles on their return from New York and Wash D.C. They report having a wonderful time. Spent the evening at home. Sister Rose May from Salt Lake - an old friend and associate in the Relief Society of my dear wife called for few moments in afternoon. Retire early. MONDAY…..May 6, 1957 nice day. 90o in afternoon on my west porch. Cleone, Myrene and I attended Ms David R Wheelwright’s funeral at 11pm to day in Mount Ogden Chapel - very nice. Many flowers Dilworth Young was one of the speakers, I have been and he and his wife came over to our home and had some refreshments after the funeral. Dear good friends. Shauna Smith Eccles - wife of Justin Eccles arrived here from Long Beach California She expects to be delivered of her Baby about 14 just a dear little woman. Nothing special Large turnout for Sister Wheelwrights funeral a dear good wife and Mother. Her oldest son Sterling is in the Orient on trip around World. |
