This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show SATURDAY…...May 11, 1957 Rain last night and hard rain this afternoon. This afternoon Cleone and I drove down to Kaysville and purchased some plants from the green house there. We called to see Jarmin and found him in bad shape. Hearing very bad and he is nearly blind. Too bad poor fellow. He has had one eye operated but with poor result I will see if anything can be done for him in Salt Lake. I have read some and thought of my dear wife. Tomorrow is Mothers day. Recd nice letter from Mary our daughter and one from David Wheelwright family Mrs W - was old friend and died few days ago SUNDAY…..May 12, 1957 Hard rain last night and cooler to day and little rain this am I attended Stake Priesthood meeting at 8 am and following this ward Priesthood meeting - brief High Priests class and Sunday School - Mother’s day program - very good. Had nice dinner at Cleone and Royals. Called at Myrenes & Jaes later. Visited cemetery and placed flowers on Myras and Oertels graves Came home and had brief stop. Have a little cold and dont feel too well. Lonesome this afternoon. Thinking of my dear wife but I am greatly blessed and I have not complained I do not complain MONDAY…...May 13, 350 years ago to day the English Columbus landed in what is now Virginia and established Jamestown, the oldest English settlement in the Western World 1607 I have been home all day except for brief ride with Cleone, to the market and we called on Elizabeth Thomas now 89. An old friend of Myras and mine. She was in Presidency of Relief Society with my dear wife Rain last night but cleared this afternoon Myrene went to Salt Lake. Nothing special Recd some M.S. history from Ezra Poulson TUESDAY Ogden UT…..May 14, 1957 Some rain again last night and cooler to day. I have been home all day. Sent M.S. to Ezra Poulson in Salt Lake Janath Canon called me on phone to say they had returned all OK from California with their little Family. I talked with Dr Keith Barny of Kaysville about Joe Jarmine and asked them to see him about an eye operation of his physical condition will justify it. Nothing special Recd card from Latilia Davis Bodorst from California - Myras cousin. Myrene called President Eisenhower gave a wonderful T.V. talk to the nation at 6 p.m. on the national Budget about so many are complaining a wonderful talk - a good man. He gave his reasons for a strong defence program |
