This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show SUNDAY Ogden…..May 19, 1957 Considerable rain this p.m. I attended ward Priesthood meeting High Priests class. Sunday School Had nice dinner at Dr Jr’s. Came home and read some. Went to evening meeting at 5pm Came home and found our daughter Avon here from Los Angeles. Nice visit with her in evening. We retire early. Avon has been sick for a few days and she looks rather bad Her daughter Carolyn Smart who lives in Salt Lake gave birth to a baby girl yesterday and is in the hospital there for a few days We retire early. I have had a cold for past few days and do not feel too well MONDAY…...May 20, 1957 Rain and hail to day - not much hail but rain. I have been home all day Have cold and do not feel very well Avon feels rested and better and this afternoon she returned to Salt Lake to care for Carolyn’s children while she Carolyn is in the Hospital a few days with her new baby girl. Avon is a dear daughter and I enjoyed her visit. She will return here in a few days. Myrene came over for a visit - dear girl. I feel better this evening. I have read some to day. Retire early. Wrote note to Ben L Rich TUESDAY…..May 21, 1957 More rain to day. A little rain nearly every day. The most I have ever seen in May here. I have been home all day reading except for trip down to vote for new County Infirmary to Cost about one million seven hundred dollars to replace the old one in Roy. Cleone and Myrene called. Also Bro about Bell Sister Fisher - wife of the late Win Fisher and the Mother of Mary and Louise Fish died to day age about 82 died to day following a paralytic stroke few days ago. A dear good woman Recd letters from Lyman Rich and Mrs JC Harker - Alvin Rich’s daughter who lives at Orem. Well my cold is better. Retire early. WEDNESDAY…..May 22, 1957 Cool day, but no rain First day of Ogden Surgical Society meeting but I have a cough and have been home all day except for short trip to Cleone & Royal’s for dinner. Dr Junior called this a.m. I have read and rested to day. Avon called me on phone from Salt Lake where she is with her daughter Carlyn - Ms Dick Sweet who gave birth to a little girl baby a few days ago - Dear little mother - Blanche - Dr Junior’s wife entertained the Doctors wives at her home this afternoon. Nothing special I intend to be careful until I recover from this cold. Retire early after hot bath, I wrote to Ruth Rich Coleman - Cal Thairs daughter, who lives in Salt Lake and whose birthday is on 24th of this month age 26 years - a dear Granddaughter of ours. |
