This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show MONDAY…..May 27, 1957 Warm to day up to 80o 80o this afternoon. Clear and no sight of storm, first clear day for long time Cloteel and daughter Ruth called to day and both look fine. They live in Salt LAke. Cleone and I went down to see Shauna Smith Eccles who gave birth to a beautiful baby Boy on 22nd just all fine, Avon came up from Salt Lake this a.m. and returned this evening to be with her daughter - Carolyn Smart who has recently had a baby girl Myrene and Cleone called and visited with Ruth and Cloteel. I have read some Very warm day TUESDAY…..May 28, 1957 Temp to day 80o forecast this evening and may rain tomorrow - or Tonight I have been home all day until this evening I went down to Royal and Cleones for nice dinner and spent the evening down there. Had nice visit with Justin their son. To day I have read ‘A Trip to California in 1849” by Geo Q Cannon written 1869. That was trip made by Geo Q and Father and other when Geo Q was 20 years of age and Father was 40 years of age. A very tiring trip and they came nearly dying on the desert This acct was written by Geo Q for the Juvenile Instructor - a church magazine - Geo Q was editor Justin Eccles is here for a few days. His dear wife Shauna gave birth to a baby boy here a few days ago and we are all happy about it WEDNESDAY…..May 29, 1957 Some wind to day and few drops of rain this evening. Boys cut lawn. Boys moved patio furniture out to day. Cleone and I picked some flowers to put on graves tomorrow, but wind was blowing and little rain so decided to go over to Cemetery early in the morning. Birdie Phelps Parker called to see me this evening - my niece - nice woman. I gave Justin and Shauna Eccles a dining dinn some table and chairs I had in basement. Am tired tonight - and shall retire early THURSDAY…...May 30, 1957 Decoration Day Nice day. I have never seen larger crowd at Cemetery or more beautiful flowers. Ted Cannon and Janath and Family - a dear little family 3 boys and 2 girls - came up and brought flowers and beautiful conze marker for Oertel’s grave - Our daughter Oertel and Janath’s mother - We had nice visit with them They remained for dinner. Myrene came over. Avon came up from Salt Lake this forenoon and Dr Jr, Blanche and Sharon - their daughter Ms Lewis - So we had quite a reunion. Avon drove back to Salt Lake and so did the Cannons. Dark night. |
