This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show TUESDAY…...June 4, 1957 Another warm day about 90o I went down to the Dee Hospital this a.m. and had some Laboratory work done. Had one pint of blood withdrawn and some other tests seen - I am feeling better this evening Went down to Cleones and Royals for nice dinner. Have read some Cleone went to Salt Lake and purchased for me some cushions for our side swinging couch, nice. Recd volume of poems from Alice Rich of Brigham City w her comprehension - Very good Splendid woman. Widow of my nephew Able G Rich WEDNESDAY…….June 5, 1957 Hot day. Little sprinkle of rain tonight and considerable wind this evening. Have read some. Have been home all day - lonesome - Had boy pulling weeds and had man spray roses. Peonies out nice. Wind blowed and little rain this evening I have either lost of some one stole my bill paid containing $10.00 and paper of some value, last night. Telephoned Mr Spencer of Zions Bank & Trust Co about some matters. Myrene and and Sayer called this evening also Dr Lewis. I felt rather depressed to day. Retire early. THURSDAY…...June 6, 1957 Nice day - cooler - a little rain last evening. Cleone and I went to Salt Lake to day. I saw Dr Palmer about my eyes. Saw Mr Spencer at Zions Savings Bank and got Deeds to Canada Property and gave them to Dr Jr for safe keeping. Called to see Ms Nina Nelson an old lady and old friend She is at Rest home at 54 South 8th East Street a good old lady. Also called to see Joseph Jerman at Kaysville age 85 and nearly blind - poor old fellow. Got lunch at ZCMI tea room. Got back home at 2 p.m. Watered lawn, Dr Jr called for few moments this evening. Got post card from Lyman Rich of Logan FRIDAY…...June 7, 1957 Nice day. Gene Fullmer, Tyler Jones fight at Chicago. Hard tough fight Fullmer was given unanimous decision - 10 round fight - I have been home all day except for trip down to Bank and to the market Myrene took me down - and afterwards I had nice visit with her here at home I wrote to Gene Maxwell Rich in reply to an invitation to attend Utah Natl Guard lounge on Governors day at Ft Williams Had man cut lawn. Wrote thank note to Alice Rich - Ms Abels Rich for sending me copy of her papers. Dr Win Riley Brown was found dead in his bed this morning, He was in his office yesterday and returned at usual and died during the night of a heart attack. An old friend of mine |
