This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show WEDNESDAY…….June 12, 1957 Nice cool day. Cloudy this afternoon and looks like more rain tonight, I have been home all day until this evening went down to Cleone & Royals for dinner and to visit with Shauna - Joshuas wife and children before they depart for their home at Long Beach Cal. Cleone and I went down to Larkins Mortuary to view remains of Sister Louise Taylor Sharpe Fred Taylors step mother - a splendid woman Have read and wrote a note to Zula Cole at Logan THURSDAY…...June 13, 1957 Some rain last night. Cool day Dark night to night - I have been home all day. Ralph W Hardy Jr our great grand son from Wash DC. called to see me this a.m. He arrived here last night - a fine boy 16 years of age on his way to Pendleton Oregon where he will work this summer. This evening I had dinner at Cleone & Royals. This evening Ralph and I called at Dr Jr’s and Blanche’s for a brief visit after which Ralph called on his cousin - the Hardy’s Cool this evening. Recd letter from Maren Eccles Hardy - Ralph’s mother. Wrote to Zula Cole and Alison Rich’s daughter Mrs J.E. Harker of Orem Utah - my niece FRIDAY…...June 14, 1957 Nice day but cool I have been home all day This is Carolyn's - Dr Jr’s daughters birthday 19 a fine young lady I miss my car greatly I am quite dizzy to day. No one has called and I am lonesome. Myrene called over phone also Cleone. Ralph Hardy Jr took Cleones Car to Salt Lake so she is tied without a car. I gave Carolyn for her birthday “Anthology of Poetry” in 2 small volumes and she was pleased. Clarence Rich from Paris Idaho called and he is feeling and looking not well. Retire at 10 p.m. - tired though I have done very little. SATURDAY…...June 15, 1957 Cold stormy day Temp 60o on my porch at 3 p.m. I have been home all day except I went down to Cleones & Royals for visit with Ralph W Hardy Sr and Jr and Frank Wise. Myrene called this evening also Dr Jr and Blanche. I have read some and been quite lonesome This is Lucile Cozzens Hancocks’ birthday 66 Recd Father’s Day cards from Avon, Thair and Mary. Blanket from Myrene. Box of mints from Mary - Dear children. YW LA Conference in Salt Lake yesterday and to day. Many young people from all over country Ralph W Hardy Sr from Wash D.C. came out and spoke at to days session - a good man. |
