This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show TUESDAY…….July 2, 1957 Warm sultry day. Little rain this evening. I went down and got hair cut to day. This evening I was invited to have dinner with Dr and Ms Barlett Dr Fred Matthies and wife Claire and all their children were there Nice dinner and pleasant time afterwards went over to Junior’s H. Taylor Peery our son in Law and Calvin Collins - Taylor’s brother in law called and are here for the night. They are just returning from a trip by boat down part of Colorado river. So glad to see them back and all well. Dr Junior & Edward start on long trip to Europe via air to night WEDNESDAY…....July 3, 1957 Cooler to day and pleasant Taylor Peery and Calvin Collins went to Salt Lake and will spend tonight in Provo, with David Peery - Taylors son who is a student at B.Y.U I enjoyed having them with me last night; Dr Jr and Edward left here about 10-30 last night and shall be in New York now or probably on flight to Europe from B.Y. I have been home all day except this evening I went down to Royal and Cleone’s for nice dinner. Nothing special I have read some and went to the market THURSDAY…...July 4, 1957 Trip 95o at 7 p.m. Nice day Clear and cool No city celebration here but all the adjoining towns celebrated separately This evening Cleone and Myrene had a Family reunion and celebration picnic at Myrene’s & Jae’s camp at South Fork in Ogden Canyon. Ted & Janath Cannon & family and Dick Sweet & Carolyn & Family and Jerry and Ruth Coleman from Salt Lake Also Dr Richard Rich and Wife and Baby Shauna on their way from Honolulu to San Antonio Texas - Ted Cannon, Richard Rich - the father and I blessed the baby and named her Shauna. Dr Fred & Clare Matthies & family. Jeff Thomas - Myrelle & Family from Salt Lake also there. We had a splendid time and all enjoyed themselves. Dear Daughters and a dear lot of posterity. Cool in Canyon tonight. Many campers for to day FRIDAY…...July 5, 1957 Warm day 100- I have been home all day Cleone - dear girl came up and tidied up the house and made the lunch and had lunch with me I have read some. Recd letters from Lyman Rich and Avon Smart and Myrene Knowles White telling of her grand mothers death in Wales and her mothers trip there. Boy cut lawn I had good rest this p.m. but dont feel extra well. |
