This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show SATURDAY…...August 3, 1957 Beautiful day. Rich reunion at Logan Utah on campus of State U of Utah. Nice affair - Lyman H Richhad charge as President of the Council and he did a splendid job. Good attendance. Ralph W Hardy and Family of Wash D.C. was in attendance also. President Chase of the College - U of U State I went up to Logan with Cleone and came back with Ralph W Hardy & part of Family The entire Rich family showed me great courtesy and honor as the only living child of Charles C Rich & Wives. Got back home tired, but was satisfied with the day reunion of the Rich family. SUNDAY…..August 4, 1957 Nice day, about 92o. I was tired last night and did not get very early. I went up to Gospel Doctrine class at Sunday School. Went down to Cleones & Royals for dinner. Enjoyed being with Ralph & Marion and Family. Came home about 3 p.m. Had nap and watered lawn and in evening went down to Cleones & Royals and Ralph showed pictures of his trip around Wales - very good pictures - wonderful a dozen friends were invited to see the pictures and spent nice evening. Refreshments served MONDAY…..August 5, 1957 Ralph W Hardy age 41 Husband of Maren Eccles Hardy and son in Law of Royal and Cleone Rich Eccles died of a heart attack this afternoon up at Pine View down in Ogden Canyon A blessed dear good man. He had never been seriously sick and was out here from Washington D.C. with his dear Family. We are all broken up about it. A terrible blow to his dear wife and five children 3 girls and 2 boys Little David 5 ½ years old - the youngest, Ralph attended Rich Family reunion Saturday and went to Salt Lake Sunday. Showed his pictures taken on a trip around the World last night and seemed perfectly well when he went with a party of young people for a boating on the Lake Ralph was one of the dearest best men the Church has ever produced. Aug 6th a day of sorrow - because of the death of dear Ralph W Hardy We are all so depressed and so sorry for dear Maren and the Family I have been down to Cleones twice to see if I could help in any way Funeral is set for Friday Aug 9th in the Assembly Hall Salt Lake at 12 noon. Maren and Family standing it well but too many visitors who stay too long. I feel some better. Myrene called Recd letter from Avon. I telephoned Avon early this morning about Ralph’s death. Retire early this is my dear Mothers 128th birthday Born Aug 6th 1829 |
