This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show SUNDAY…….August 11, 1957 Nice day - few drops of rain I attended Ward Priesthood and Sunday School. Also evening meeting at 5 pm at which Prof Leland Monson gave a wonderful talk on the Book of Mormon. I had nice dinner at Cleones and Royals. Maren is feeling better Roscoe Rich’s wife of Burley Idaho died of Cancer, age about 55 years. Roscoe is a son of my brother Samuel Rich - deceased. MONDAY…….August 12, 1957 Nice day - Cooler. I have been home all day except for trip down to Cleones & Royals. Cleone and I took little David down town and I bought for him cow boy boots and hat and shirt, and he was very pleased and looked cute. A dear little boy. I watered the garden this am and read some. Wrote letters to Charles Smart and Roscoe Rich whose wife died yesterday. Roscoe lives at Burley Idaho and is a son of my brother Samuel Rich Nothing special. Maren and Family are feeling better and taking their great sorrows as well as can be expected Bro Neldon Smith & Wife from Wash DC called to see Maren & family to day TUESDAY…...August 13, 1957 Nice day. Myrene and Cleone gave a party for all of their Grand children up at Myrene & Jaes camp in South Fork to day Janath & Children (Ms Ted Cannon) Carlyn Smart and children from Salt Lake - Avons Grandchildren Maren Hardy and children from Wash D.C. Claire Matthies & children and several others were there. All had nice picnick and a good time. I went up with Cleone Maren is feeling better Joe Brewers Jr & wife and two children were also there. I have read some and wrote to Richard Rich & wife - (Thairs son) who is in Texas WEDNESDAY…..August 14, 1957 Nice day 93o I have been home all day until this evening I went over to Jean Ellis’ home to the wedding of Ginger Ellis and Robert Wallace. Nice affair. Large crowd. Later I went late to a Stake Priesthood meeting at which Adam S Bennion spoke - a large crowd. Dr Junior and his son Edward arrived home from their Polar Bear hunt in the Arctic region about midnight last night. All well and got three bears I am so thankful they are back well I have not had a chance to talk with them yet about their trip. Lyman Rich and wife called this afternoon. Grand people |
