This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show THURSDAY……August 15, 1957 Nice day Temp about 90o I have been home all day. This evening I went down to Lindquist’s Mortuary to view remains of Lewis Peery age 45 - son of the pioneer David H Peery, and father of Dr Lewis Peery of Ogden Utah and Uncle of our son in Law H Taylor Peery of Palo Alto Cal Dr Jr called to day & I am so thankful he and his son Edward are home safe from their Polar Bear hunt in the Arctic region. I have read some and wrote letters Cleone - dear girl - took me down to Market this evening. Cleone and Maren Eccles Hardy went to Salt Lake on business to day to see about Ralph business and found conditions better than she had hoped about finances. Insurance etc. FRIDAY……August 16, 1957 Nice day, 93o some wind this evening. I had nice visit with our dear granddaughter Maren Hardy to day. She is feeling better - dear girl Recd letter from Avon. Our son in Law H Taylor Peery and our dear daughter Mary and their sons David and Richard called to day. They came up from Provo to attend funeral of Taylors Uncle Lewis Peery and returned to Provo for Davids graduation exercise this evening The will return to Ogden tomorrow. I am so pleased they will be here for a few days We all attended a Dinner party given by Mr & Mrs Frank & Ms Eccles and Mr & Mrs Lund for Dr Jr’s son Edward and his fiance Lorna Ledingham who will be married Aug 20th nice party SATURDAY…….August 17, 1957 Nice day about 98o in afternoon Taylor and Mary came up from Provo where they saw their son David graduate from B.Y.U last evening. They arrived here about 130 p.m. and Dick and David came about 5 p.m. I had nice visit with Ralph Hardy Jr this a.m. - a fine young man Had nice visit with Mary and Taylor & Ralph this evening. Taylor has been in Peery family visiting most of the day. We all had dinner here at home that Mary cooked So nice to have them all here. David will go on mission next month to the middle eastern states. Mary & J called at Cleones & Royals this afternoon. Wrote several letters to those who helped with Rich reunion. SUNDAY…….August 18, 1957 Dr Ezra Rich’s birthday 93 would be if alive He has been dead about 5 years. Nice day but warm in middle of day Taylor Peery and sons David and Richard and wife Mary - Taylors wife) and I all went to Sunday School and afterwards went out to dinner and about 3 p.m. Taylor and the Boys left via auto for their home in Palo Alto Cal. Mary will remain with me until the last of the month and I am so happy she will stay for a while. Cleone, Maren Hardy and her dear children came up this evening and we had nice visit. Such a dear little family. So recently deprived of their dear father by his sudden death. Our Grand daughter - Lynn Rich Litchfield daughter of Dr & Ms Junior Rich gave birth to a dear little son to day - our 75th blood descendant. 7 children 27 grand children and 41 great grandchildren |
