This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show MONDAY……...August 19, 1957 Sultry day. Nice little shower this afternoon. Had boys cut lawn to day Edward Rich Brewer and Lorna Ledingham went through temple to day and will be married tomorrow in Salt Lake Temple. I have been home most of the day. Recd card from Iris Slant from & Husband from London England. They live in Wash D.C. and on a tour of temple. She is my niece. I am enjoying visit with our dear daughter Mary Peery Retire at 10 p.m. TUESDAY…...August 20, 1957 Little rain last night Edward Browning Ridh - Dr Jr’s son was married to day to Lorna Ledingham in the Salt Lake Temple, and a splendid reception was held in the Ogden 43rd ward chapel this evening. A large crowd attended and it was a beautiful affair. I went down to Salt Lake and witnessed the ceremony and Dr Jr & Blanch served us all to a wonderful wedding breakfast at the Alta Club following the marriage ceremony. June Smart and Carlyn and husband Dick Smart and Jerry and Ruth Coleman came up from Salt Lake to the reception, and called at the house after the reception. I am quite tired to night Mary and I went up to the reception with Cleone and Royal Reception very nice. Large crowd. WEDNESDAY…...August 21, 1957 Cooler to day. Myrene came over just after dinner and Mary took her car and we went down town and did some shopping and later Royal Eccles took Mary and me up to the Gray Cliff Cafe for a nice dinner. Cleone and Maren and Family went to to the Hardy Cabin at at the head of the Weber River for a few days rest and recreation. I am quite tired to day Have read some. June Smart brought the M.S. of my Biography up from Los Angeles where Avon had examined it. Mary has been reading it to me to day. Retire at 10 p.m. rather tired. I am enjoying Mary’s visit with me So happy about children and Dorothea baby Boy born to day THURSDAY…..August 22, 1957 Rain last night and cooler to day I have been home all day except for brief trip down town to have hair cut Mary and I have read my biography in part to day. This evening Royal Eccles and Lucile Hancock were here for nice dinner that Mary prepared. Cleone and Maren and Family are up at Holliday Park at head of Weber River. They will be back home tomorrow. Ralph Hardy had cabin up there. Recd letter from Avon to day. Sent wedding present to Young German convert who was moving yesterday Mr & Mrs Juergen Gass - nice young couple |
