This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show SATURDAY…..August 31, 1957 Nice day. June Smart came up from Salt Lake and went up to Logan. He came back about 4 pm and we had a nice visit. Called to see Royal and cleone and had nice lunch here at our home. Went over the Cemetery and called to see Dr Jr and Family and then June went back to Salt Lake this evening. I have read some and wrote a letter to Dorothy Cannon McGrath who lives at Ventura Cal. She is moving and a daughter of Frank J Cannon. She wrote me a nice letter some time ago Retire early tired. Dr Jr showed some nice little trinkets he brought from his trip to Norway and the Arctic region Our dear son Cal Thair came later this evening I am so happy to see him. He has been out in Nevada studying nucleir Weapons & Bombs. Dear Son. SUNDAY Sept. 1st Cooler last night. Thair is here and with we are all so happy to see him. I had nice visit with him last night and to day. We rode around new part of city this a.m. Visited Cemetery and had nice dinner at Cleone’s and Royals In afternoon Cleone and Thair drove up to Joe & Myrenes camp in South Fork to see Myrene and Family. Joe Brewer and Family called to see me Dear little family. I gave Joe Jr an old Book of Mormon 1st edition 1830. The book was presented to me by Clara West Brewer Joe’s grandmother and It was handed down from Chauncey West her grand father and Joe’s great grandfather. A rare book. Dr Jr took thair down to the Salt Lake air port where he will leave for his home Atlanta Georgia tonight. I went down to Cleones and heard Maren and the children play on Piano and Violin They will leave for Wash D.C. early in the morning Dear little family. Their husband & Father died Aug 5th 1957 of heart attack MONDAY Temp about 80o….September 2, 1957 Labor day. Maren Hardy and Family left for their home in Wash D.C. this morning via Ry to Chicago and Air from there to Wash DC It will be a sad time at home for a time Dear little family. I have been home all day. Cleone and Royal went to Provo to have a talk with Ernest Wilkinson about Maren and Family. No one has visited me to day I have read and watered lawn etc Took walk this evening. Nothing special I think Dr Jr and Blanche went to Bear Lake TUESDAY..Temp 82o...September 3, 1957 Nice day. I have been home all day Myrene and Cleone and Dr Jr called during day and this evening. Recd letter and remittance of $1060 00 from Zion Saving Bank & Trust Co from sale of bond. Recd letter from Kathy & Ted H Bjornn parents of triplets saying all fine now in Oklahoma 2211 Hoover & Apt C Lawton Oklahoma Have read some. Had boy cutting lawn Wrote card to Mary & Taylor Wrote birthday letter to Prest. David O McKay for his 84th birthday sept 8th |
