Tribune Oct 11-57 Sets Hew Mark On October 4, most of the nation's morning front-page headlines were devoted to the Soviet Union's man-made moon. But not in Milwaukee! There a banner headline proclaimed: "Today We Make History." Milwaukee was playing host to its first World Series game, with the hometown Braves and the New York Yankees tied at one victory each. Six days later, the Braves made baseball history with a vengeance, though not in Milwaukee, beating the Yankees 5-0 at New York to win the world championship for the first time. The Yanks aren't used to losing in the fall classic, nor are they accustomed to being shut out — and the Braves did that, not once but twice. Baseball history, of course, is important only to baseball fans, but for a couple of hours Thursday that included a goodly percentage of the American public. Now, however, the 1957 World Series is in the record book and the world that is always too much with us again occupies our attention. But if the Milwaukee burghers don't put up a statue of Lew Burdette, the man who pitched the Braves to three World Series victories, we don't care what else made Milwaukee famous.
