Authorities at Pondichery hospital said the other two week-old girls are “getting on well.” The mother is a 29-year-old Indian servant woman whose husband is unemployed and who already has three older daughters to support. When told that a third of the babies had died, she murmured, “God has lightened my burden.” Standard July 9 - 57 A note of inspiration was added to the welcome-home reception for Gene Fullmer last Monday at the Salt Lake airport. Marv Jenson, manager of the new world middleweight boxing champion related an incident which occurred in Gene’s New York dressing room shortly before the Utahn entered the ring to meet Champion Sugar Ray Robinson. Ezra Taft Benson, apostle for the Mormon church and at present secretary of agriculture, visited briefly with Gene and Marv in the Madison Square Garden dressing room. “Gene, I know you have worked long and hard for this big chance,” Mr. Benson said. “Now go in there and do your best. “Our faith and prayers are with you,” he concluded with an affectionate arm around the youngster’s shoulder. Marv paused a moment in his remarks to the airport crowd, then added” “We knew then that we were going to win that fight.”
