Show ‘Straw Hat Day’ Salt Lake Tribune May 17 - 57 Snows Snarl Traffic in Southeast Wyoming By United Press A freak May snowstorm dumped up to 14 inches of snow in southeast Wyoming Thursday, grounding planes and snarling traffic throughout the corner of the state. Eight inches of snow at Chey enne dampened enthusiasm for the capital city's official "straw hat day" and made topcoats and galoshes more appropriate as residents retrieved snow shovels they hoped they had put away for the summer. The 14-inch snowfall was re ported at Granite on U.S. Highway 30 between Cheyenne and Laramie. Laramie reported four inches. Although snow was reported at Rock Springs, Casper, Douglas and Rawlins also, temperatures stayed' enough above freezing at those points to melt the snow as fast as it fell. Other points reported rain and skies were generally cloudy throuout the state. |
