This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show Salt Lake Tribune Sept 21 1957 Death Claims Nurse for 1,000 Babies Mrs. Mary Christin Olson Stevens Petersen, 94, a trained nurse who delivered nearly 1,000 babies in Sanpete County in her 50 years of serving others, died Thursday at 2 p.m. in a Salt Lake hospital of natural causes. She was graduated as a nurse in 1892 and was the only nurse in Mrs. Petersen Sanpete County for many years. Mrs. Petersen has been living in Salt Lake City since 1955. Mrs. Petersen was born Oct. 3 1 882. in Karlskrona, Sweden the daughter of Peter and Johanna Swenson Olson. She came to the United States when she was 9 years old as a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. SHE WAS married to Newton H. Stevens in the Manti LDS Temple. He died in 1881. She was later married to Niels Louis Petersen in the Manti LDS Temple in 1897. He preceded her in death in 1947. Survivors include four sons and two daughters: Henry Q. Stevens, Mrs. E. L. (Mae) Davidson, Salt Lake City; Clyde Le- Roy Stevens, Cassady Petersen, Ephraim, Sanpete County; Grant L. Petersen, Ogden,-Mrs. Cecil (Lueta) Day, Provo; and 20 grandchildren. Funeral will be conducted Monday in the Ephraim North LDS Ward chapel. Salt Lake friend's may call at 36 E. 7th South Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. In Ephraim, friends may call at the Clyde Stevens residence Sunday evening and Monday prior to services. Burial will be in the Ephraim Cemetery. |
