The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show Nov 30 - 57 Man Loses Bout Tribune Nov 30, 57 To Irate Moose Special to The Tribune ASHTON, IDAHO — C. E. Hawkins, Wilford, went deer hunting and lost his saddle horse to a pugnacious moose. Hawkins was hunting northwest of here when a moose ran out of the brush. His frightened horse slipped, throwing its rider into foot-deep snow. Up ran the moose I and rolled Hawkins around with its head. Hawkins got to his feet and broke his rifle over the moose's skull. At that point the horse got up, engaged the moose whose antlers promptly became entangled in a rope attached to the saddle. At last sight the two animals were moving toward tall timber—mostly by moose- power. Hawkins walked the eight miles to Ashton to report his loss. |
