Show GIRLS REVEAL EAGERNESS IN PEP BALLOTING Election Results Is Senior and Junior Divisions Announced OGDEN HIGH SCHOOL NOTES Constance Ford, Editor. Eager anticipation was apparent at Ogden High school when the girls interested in the Pep club elections waited for the results. Quotes Helena Case: "This is one of the finest displays of pep I've ever seen." FIRST SESSION Margaret Smith, president of the Girl's association called the first girls assembly to order Wednesday. The keynote of her speech was her original song entitled, "Smiles from Ogden High" which the present Pep club led. A cornet selection from Desmond Norton, George Ox- nam and Paul Colley, followed. Zelta Ballinger, dean of girls, talked concerning girls' problems. Shirley Poulton, vice president of the association, and Verda Parkin secretary welcomed the girls. During the rest of the assembly try outs for the pep club were held.-Margaret Hocking. NOVELTY PROMISED On October 8, at seven-thirty there is to be held in the gym the "big sister" party. The juniors will come alone and find their big sisters at the party. The lunches will be furnished by the seniors. The program promised is a novel one. Margaret Smith, president of the Girls association says "This party will be something new. It is worth every girl's effort to come. We promise something different and entertaining. Support the association, enjoy yourself."-Jeanne Johnson. SCORES HIGH AT OHIO COLLEGE Zudora Blakely Attributes Success to Ogden Teacher OGDEN HIGH SCHOOL NOTES Constance Ford, Editor. Zudora Blakely, a former student of Ogden High school, is at- j tending Wilberforce university at | Wilberforce, Ohio. Out of the fifteen | hundred students attending this college, Zudora came second in the placement test. Miss Blakely, writes, "Thanks to Leonard Robins I placed second high in the placement test in this wonderful school." -Florence Cashmore. FACULTY PLANS SHINDIG The faculty has planned a shindig for the night of the Get Acquainted dance, October 8. It will be held in the domestic science department, from seven until nine o'clock, after which they will attend the dance.-Barbara Reeve. SCHOOL DATES 'SISTER' PARTY Eight-Year-Old Custom to Be Observed For Benefit of Younger Girls OGDEN HIGH SCHOOL NOTES Constance Ford, Editor. Annual Ogden high school "Big Sister" party, a custom instituted in 1929 by Lorna Crockett, then president of the girls' association, will be held Oct. 8. Purpose of the party is to acquaint younger girls and create j a friendlier attitude in the school. ; During the week the junior girls i are shown around by big sisters. 1 Ending the week a big party is i given in honor of the little sisters, j -Florence Cashmere ASSEMBLIES IN HALL For the remainder of the football season pep assemblies will be held in the main hall. These assemblies will be at twelve forty- five each day of a game. School songs and yells will be given, and the new songs taught to the students. Mrs. Helena Case and the Pep club girls are in charge. "I believe these assemblies will be a success and I wish the student body would attend and give us its support," Mrs. Case urges.- Jeanne Johnson. REGULAR ATTENDANCE A campaign is being waged for regular attendance. All students who are able to take work in classes are emphatically urged to attend. The board of education I favors a more rigid requirement j regarding regular attendance. - Barbara Reeve. DESCRIBE BUILDING A special faculty meeting at which Leslie S. Hodgson, architect of the Ogden High school building, will describe features in the structure, has been called for Tuesday morning-Barbara Reeve. VISUAL EDUCATION In the fifth period today all boys ' taking auto mechanics were excused to see a moving picture on safety. This is the first picture given and was held in the Visual Education room.-John Neal. CANNING VISIT The physiology class visited the American Canning company and ! the Scowcroft factory where they learned about the preservation of food. Said Instructor Gilbert Moesinger: : "We hope to visit the school for the deaf and blind, Dee hospital, the county hospital, the mental hospital in Provo and perhaps the state penitentiary."-John Neal. COLORED INITIALS At the suggestion of Mrs. Helena Case, gym instructor, colored initials denoting names of teams will be used or girls' gym uniforms instead of the usual gym tie. In the gym classes today, the seniors were to present original skits. The best six from the senior classes will be presented at the girls' party this Friday.-Virginia Fotis. NIGHT SCHOOL OPENS Superintendent Dave Wangsgard announces the commencement of night school Thursday evening. All adults above eighteen may attend. -Barbara Reeve. PWA OFFICES TO BE MOVED INTOCOLLEGE Waiting For Acceptance By Board of New High School OGDEN HIGH SCHOOL NOTES Constance Ford, Editor. Headquarters of the public works administration in Ogden will probably be moved to Weber college during construction of the $146,000 mechanic arts building, Glen A. Wright, assistant resident engineer inspector, said today. Wright said in any event the offices will be moved from the Ogden High school building. "We're just here until the sehool board accepts the structure," he said.-Stomo Ochi, SCHOOL DANCE Every dance will be a tag dance at Ogden High school's "get acquainted" party Friday, Oct. 15, at nine p. m. in the school gymnasium, Jennie Bek- ker, student vice president, said today. • "We want everybody to come," she said. "If the fellows or girls have no dates, they should come anyway. This dance is to get acquainted and the girls can tag as well as the boys."-Jeanne Johnson. MUSICIAN VISITS Emery G. Epperson, music supervisor of the Jordan school district, visited the a cappella choir Monday. Epperson is a rising composer, having written some operettas and band and orchestra methods. He spent the day visiting Ogden city schools with Mark Robinson, city school music supervisor, "This a capelia ehoir is be- coming famous, and the con' ditions this year are very favorable," he said. - Florence Cashmore. MIXED QUARTET Joyce Wilson, Hendrina Ev- ertson, Eugene Brough and Paul Cowley compose a mixed quartet which will sing at the U. E. A. convention to be held at Salt Lake City Oct. 23. The quartet will sing for the history section.-Florence Cashmore, STUDY CLUB RULES A group of students wishing to form a study club should follow these rules: Select a member of the faculty interested in the subject which the club wishes to study, and ask him to be the advisor. With the aid of this advisor, frame a constitution which will comply with the rules of the school. The faculty council will then vote on the acceptability of the constitution and if certain parts are not advisable they may be rewritten. - Reed Coray. TRIO SELECTED BY CAMERA CLOB Will Draw Constitution For Approval of Faculty Council OGDEN HIGH SCHOOL NEWS NOTES Constance Ford, Editor. An Ogden High school Camera club meeting was held under direction of W. W. Taggart Wednesday afternoon. The club organized a committee which will write up a constitution to be handed to the school faculty council for consideration. Taggart explained that the purpose of the club is to promote interest in photography and to create friendship among students. The members named to draw up the constitution are Lee Launders, Jessie Jensen, and Dick Thomas.-George Jensen. PLAY REVIEWED At the Fine Arts society meeting Wednesday in the visual education room, Kathryn Bassett Pardoe, dramatic art instructor at Brigham Young university, read a three-act play, "Tava- rich," which has been playing in New York recently and is soon to be filmed. Prof. Thomas Giles, head of the music department of the University of Utah, will be the speaker at the society meeting December 1. He will discuss grand opera.-Kathryn Ellsworth. KITCHEN CONTRAST A display of scenes in the old fashion kitchens and the modern kitchens is to be made in the showcase by the girls of the home living class. The display will show the improvements in the kitchens.-Virginia Fotis. SPANISH EVENT A Spanish program given in the third period Spanish class consisted of one-act dramatic plays, monologs and short Spanish sketches. The newly elected officers of the class are: president, Ray- mon Verala: vice president, Royal Christenson; secretary, Caroline Smith.-George Jensen. FINE ARTS SOCIETY Students interested in joining the Fine Arts society met in the j visual education room Monday after school, at which time the I newly formed constitution was read and adopted by the stu- I dents. The purpose of this organization is to increase and broaden interests in all fine arts. The society will be composed o'f guilds-arts, music, literature, dramatics, stagecraft - each guild having its own officers and faculty director. Each guild will bring entertainment pertaining to its own interests to the other members of the society at meetings held every other Wednesday. A provision has been made that students interested in more than one guild may be a member of one and an associate member of others, thus enabling them to participate in the movements of all guilds.-Kathryn Ellsworth. |
