Show 31 The next Advisory Committee meeting was held May 14, 1956, in the Annex Building that had been moved from the lower campus to the new campus. This building was used as a temporary union building, wherein a snack bar, cafeteria, and bookstore were housed. President Miller reported that the new Technical Education Building was in the process of being constructed and that plans for the Maintenance, Stores, and Receiving Buildings were also nearing completion. In the other two meetings held in 1956, progress reports were given on campus improvements and the purchase of additional land. President Miller advised that the college has approximately 200 acres now, 60 acres on level ground and the remainder on the hill. In discussing future buildings for the school, he stated that in August of 1956, at the request of the Utah Legislative Council, a report prepared on a six-year basis was made, outlining the proposed request of Weber College to the 1957 Legislature for appropriations for needed buildings. Listed as first priority was a new gymnasium; second priority, an auditorium; and the third priority, a new library-classroom building. Members of the Utah Legislature from the college area were in attendance at the meeting December 12, wherein the following general items were agreed upon: 1. That Weber College should definitely plan to request four-year status. It was thought that the 1959 session of the Legislature might be the desirable one at which to direct this request. |
