65 girls. There were other housemothers who served well, but they remained at the Hall only a short period of time. In the late spring and early summer of 1954, Weber College moved from its lower campus to the new campus on Harrison Boulevard between Thirty-seventh Street and Thirty-ninth Street. There were few housing accomodations in this new area so the girls remained living in the Bertha Eccles Hall for approximately five years. As transportation was a serious problem among the girls, the number in the dormitory gradually dwindled and by the spring of 1959 it was necessary to close Bertha Eccles Hall. The value of the property had gradually declined and the College could not operate it economically for just a very few students. The closing of the Hall was discussed with the Eccles family in an attempt to provide for the future use of this building according to the wishes of the family. When the Eccles family deeded this property to Weber College, they were aware that at some future time the college might move to a new campus. The family provided in the deed of Bertha Eccles Hall to Weber College that if Weber College abandoned the old campus and this property reverted back to the LDS Church, at that time title to Bertha Eccles Hall would also transfer from Weber College to the Church.
