Show UNIVERSITY OF UTAH MDCCCL FEB 28th OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT GEORGE THOMAS, PRESIDENT University of Utah Salt Lake City September 3, 1924. Dear Friend: . It is the duty of the State University to let the high school graduate know something of the higher education that is offered in the State. It is a pleasure to do this because we know that we w can offer you the best in the Intermountain region. We have presented you with the catalogue, a series of informative letters and herewith is a card of facts concerning your own University. It is the duty of the high school graduate to make the most of himself--not to be just a good citizen, but to be a useful citizen. The present period of competition is showing the value of a trained mind. The man with the greatest knowledge, training, and self- control survives the competition and comes forth even stronger, while the untrained person is very apt to be lost, sooner or later, in competition. It is now your duty to yourself to make the most of every opportunity, and we hope that the opportunity of getting a complete university education at your own institution will not be overlooked. However, it might be well to know that the University of Utah maintains the highest standards, and desires only serious-minded 'students who come to be benefited. All new students will be greatly benefited by sending in their high school credits immediately. Another benefit is to be here on time to register on one of the days set aside for that purpose--September 25, 26 or 27. A good introduction to, and a sound basis for study usually spell success, while the opposite conditions breed discouragement and failure. In conclusion, let me remind you that the University ranks with the best in the country, that you will be near your home, with people with whom you are to spend your life, and that all conditions at the University are such that they will assist you in making the best you can give just that much better. We hope to see you and serve you when you come to register in that field of greater opportunities. With best wishes, George Thomas President. Bring your copy of the catalogue with you on September 25, the opening day of registration. |
