Show Volume 2_ Issue Page 10 7 New Zion Member of the Month “Bro. Herman & Sis. Hazel Jones” ] Bro. Herman Jones is a native of Heflin, 1 Louisiana and relocated to Ogden, Utah in 1942. He began his career with the Union Pacific | Railroad Diner Car Department, retiring in 1982 | with thirty nine years of service as a Chief Cook. Sis. Jones is originally from Arkansas. She was \ reared and educated in Los Angeles, California prior to moving to Utah in 1950. Sis. Jones began her profession working at Hill AFB in 1951. They were married on July 18, 1952 in Ogden and count it a blessing to be celebrating 57 years of marriage this month. They have a rich legacy being the parents of five daughters, eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Bro. & Sis. Jones are faithful members of the New Zion Baptist Church. Sis. Jones has been an active member for 50 years and Bro. Jones was baptized here at New Zion by the Rev. Lacy K. Curry in 1965. She has loyally worked in God's vineyard through the years in many auxiliaries,; The Mission, Decoration and Sick and Shut-in Ministries, Young Adult, Voices of Praise and Senior Choirs and the Benevolent Committee serving as President for six years. They have both been active in the Ogden Community throughout the years in various auxiliaries and programs and received numerous awards for their efforts. As his job allowed, Bro. Jones has diligently prepared meals for many church annual dinners and events. Her favorite book of the Bible is “Ephesians, especially chapter 6:1018. Sis. Jones stated, “Each day | try to put on the whole armor of God...that | may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Their favorite songs are; He Looked Beyond My Faults, In Times Like These, His Eye Is On the Sparrow, Because He Lives, and Jesus Is The Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me. They love to travel and have had the pleasure of criss-crossing America many times and enjoyed several cruises over the years. Bro. & Sis. Jones stated, “Truly!
