This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show Tuesday, June 27 Listened to broadcast of G.O.P. Convention from Chicago all morning & afternoon. Very interesting. Thomas E. Dewey was (with one exception) nominated for President of U.S. and John W. Bricker Gov. of Ohio for vice Pres. Dewey is Gov. of New York. A fine team No letter from Thair since May 24 in Eng. But recd one from Taylor who says he has had meals with Thair & he is fine. We are so anxious for them. written June 17 letter came 24 U.S. Casualties Total 224,158 WASHINGTON, June 29 American casualties in the war, including the first two weeks of battle in Normandy, total 224,158. Of these 55,206 are dead 35,104 soldiers and 20,102 navy, marines and coast guard personnel. Secretary of War Stimson reported today that through June 13 American army casualties were 179,923 of which 32,022 were killed, 73,668 wounded, 37,666 miss Dr Will Baker called. Thursday, June 29 Lynn Rich a dear little grand daughter has spent the day with me cutting out paper clippings for my scrap history books. I have done bakeing and have had a buisy day. Dr & I attended a concert given by Army people for 5 Bond drive. At High School. Very good. War news favorable. U.S. Casualties total for first two weeks in Normany 244,158 of these 55,206 are dead. Friday, June 30 Weber Co. Old Folks Day held at Lorin Farr Park. 2,000 people over age of 70 yr in attendance. I was the finest gathering of the king Dr & I have ever attended. Hot lunch of varied delicious food served on beautifuly decorated tables by the Bishoprich & members of Relief Society. After a day of visiting among the many wards and entertainment every where (each Ward serving its own) a lovly meal was served at 7 P.M. All guests (old people) were brought & rtaken home by Auto. This Day was started in the L.D.S. Church in 1875 & continued since. Met many dear old friends. |
