Show Northern Kyushu (lower left, above map) southernmost portion of the Jap mainland, was the Pittsburgh of the Nippons that was turned into glowing masses of wreckage by B29 super bombers on Thursdya. While the only specific target named was Yawata, the Tokyo radio said Moji and Kokura (see upper left on map) were also hit. The historic attack from China bases marked the beginning of an entirely new chapter of aerial warfare with the greatest bombers ever built. Note Map above shows Honshu, main island of Japan crammed with bombing targets that include arms and munitions centres, the heart of Jap war industry, naval and air bases and the enemys capital city itself. |
