Show Church Plans to Spend Millions On lew Buildings A building program involving the expenditure of millions and millions of dollars was announced by Apostle Stephen L. Richards at the L. D. S. Ben Lomona stake quarterly conference Sunday afternoon in Ogden tabernacle. A temple in California, and ward chapels and mission homes are included in the program, Apostle Richards said. He referred briefly to the program when he urged members to pay their tithing, pointing to temporal and spiritual blessings resulting from the observance of this principle. Payment of Debts Apostle Richards also advised members of the church to get out of debt. He said he had never seen a time when men received so much money as now We will never have a better opportunity to pay off our obligations. A man is not free who is in debt. The official also advised members to save up money so that when the time comes they can send members of their families on missions. He said he could see a vision of missionary work after the war. Thank God for America, the land of Zion. May she repent of her many transgressions, Apostle Richards said in his Constitution day address at the morning session. Christian Nation Constitution day seems to furnish us an opportunity to help America realize her destiny, he said. I do not hesitate to say I believe America is a Christian nation, although all American citizens will not accept that name. We have abundant proof that God intended this should be a choice land and if all Americans could only come to the concept that this is truly a Christian nation, and that Jesus Christ is the God of this land, America would be on its way to a realization of its great destiny. The principle of freedom is God given. Freedom is only safe in the hands of people who are controlled by the concept of Christianty, and the Christian concept is that all men shall be free, the official said. Influence of Bible Apostle Richards referred to a writer who declared that the founders of this nation were influenced in forming the constitution by the Bible more than any other book or source of information, and our concept of the three departments of our government were very largely from the Israelitish government. |
