Now semi-retired and working only two days a week. Married to Ray J. Behling (also class of 1939) and for a number of years, moved around country developing a love for travel. Traveled extensively in 49 of the 50 states (excluding Alaska), six trips to Europe - all the western countries except Scnadinavia - hope to try that soon. Married to Robert E. Corey; two grown sons, Douglas and Scott, both associated with family business. One grandson (a 4-year old dynamo). Career: a busy happy homemaker. After 28 years of civic and volunteer work, now "retired" to hobbies: giving book reviews. Republican politics, antiquing and walking. Presently serving as trustee of First Presbyterian Church; president of board for Willamette Valley Humane Society. Signal maintenance at Lemay, Lucin, Ogden, Utah and Wells, Nevada. Active in L.D.S. Church, holding various ward and stake positions. Vice president Utah State Horseshoe Pitchers Association. Serves on executive board of W. T. Western Boys Baseball Association. Has been vice president of Washington Terrace Booster Club (Little League football). Married to Mary Magdelina Baxter. Six sons, two daughters, three grandsons, two granddaughters. Hobbies: horseshoe pitching, music, and following the accomplishments of the offspring! Married to Eldon C. "Cy" Crandall who retired from the J. C. Penney Company and bought a company of his own 12 years ago. Works with husband in Crandall Corporation - Yarbros' A-1 Travel & Tours. Three children, David E. of Dallas, Texas; Jeanine Armstrong of Denver (three children) and D. Clark Crandall, president of Yarbro Corp. Has served on national Board of Girl Scouts, former president of the Mile Hi Council in Denver and was chairman of the Girl Scout National Convention held in Denver last October. Loves young people, enjoys church activity and travel - and the grandchildren! ROBERT B. BECK 2385 Van Buren Avenue, Ogden, Utah 84401 394-3930 Following high school graduation, worked at Hill Air Force Base as an electrician. Spent three years in Army's 19th Mountain Division in charge of radio and telephone communications at battalion level. Taught skiing for the Army for two years before going overseas to Italy and active combat duty. Worked in the automotive field for several years and now an electrician at Weber State College. Married Shirley Kimball in 1941, raised a son Robbie and a daughter Joan. Wife died of cancer in 1972. Remarried V. Joan Scholer in 1974 and has a combined family now of five children and eight grandchildren. Has always been actively involved in skiing, having taught skiing for 15 years at Snow Basin and was half owner of the ski school concession. Was active in development of Snow Basin and Powder Mountain. Also enjoys golfing. JEAN BEDFORD MALAN 1162 Collins Boulevard, Ogden, Utah 84404 394-6208 Graduated from beauty school, worked for Civil Service at Ogden Arsenal and D.D.O, Ogden City Recreation as secretary, Wangsgard's Bakery as bakery finisher and later supervisor. Married to C. Walter Malan, five children - Patricia, Kent, Alan, Boyd and Marilyn. Four married, nine grandchildren, all living in Ogden area. Has enjoyed various ward and stake positions. Works in Ogden temple with husband who is still in stake presidency as counselor. Associated with girls' camp program for nine years. Enjoys music, singing, accordion and "pecking" at the piano, also sewing and writing poetry. Greatest achievement "my family". Worked at Hill Air Force Base for 27 years, now retired. Active in L.D.S. Church. Held many executive positions, currently HP secretary and athletic director. Active in temple work and genealogy, serves as receptionist in Ogden Temple. Serves on the Board of Directors of the Utah First Community Federal Credit Union. Works part time for City of Washington Terrace and Clifco Metal Products. Enjoys singing with choir and working with youth and adults in the church athletic program. Married to Dorothy Mary Simonsen (class of 1939). Four sons, three daughters, twenty grandchildren (eleven grandsons, nine granddaughters). KATHERINE BELL WALKER 1510 - 25th Street, Ogden, Utah 84401 392-4275 Completed comprehensive business course at Weber State College. Worked in County Recorder's Office; personal secretary to bank senior vice president for nine years. Left to raise a family and then returned to work nine years ago. Presently secretary at Ogden High Seminary. Involved in speech arts for many years; instrumental in developing series of lectures for youth relating to social and cultural refinements at YWCA, Girl & Boy Scout Troops, Marshal White Center, Stake Industrial School. Married C. LaMar Walker, one married son, one daughter graduating from Ogden this year, two grandchildren. Active in L.D.S. Church. Served as division, stake and ward speech director, stake and ward YWMIA president, counselor in Relief Society, taught many classes. Active in L.D.S. church: has been Sunday School Superintendent, etc. Enjoys hunting and riding motorcycles. Worked for a brother in Twin Falls, Idaho for two years and began Federal employment in 1948, working with local draft boards as an area supervisor, traveling half the state of Idaho. Completed over 25 years with the Selective Service System, retiring in 1976. Married to Adrian Van Hook. One single son, Mark, age 26. An avid golfer and bridge player. Two sons, three daughters, ten grandchildren. Active in L.D.S. Church, having served in many capacities, bishopric, stake and ward positions. Too busy being a grandfather to have many hobbies, but enjoys bowling and all spectator sports. Anderson and was Dr. Russell Stirland's first office nurse. Recently has worked as hostess for Federated Dairies in different grocery stores. Taught L.D.S. classes. Hobbies: traveling, camping, reading, sewing, grandchildren. Oldest grandchild, Jeffrey Bybee, sang with his school at Bicentennial celebration in Washington, D.C. B-24 pilot in World War II. 39 years service with Mountain Bell Telephone Company. Various management positions with the company in Ogden, Denver and Salt Lake City. Presently district manager (central district) in Provo. Active in civic affairs. Member of Roy City Council for six years. Awarded Jaycee Distinguished Service Award; Past President Kiwanis Club and Exchange Club; Chapter Chairman for Red Cross in Central Utah; Campaign Chairman and on Board of Directors of United Way for Utah County. Married to Edna Hazen (class of 1940). Three grown children, two boys and a girl. Seven grandchildren. Hobbies: music, hunting, fishing, traveling in Holiday Rambler Trailer house. Dee III and David L. Dee. MARY LOU BROWN BEECHER 130 North 8th East, Brigham City, Utah 723-3004 Attended Weber College and Ogden Business School. Secretary to Col. George Lockhart, Ft. Douglas, Utah, then transferred to Hill Air Force Base as secretary to training administrator. Sent to St. Louis, Missouri on TDY where she was honored as "Sweetheart of Air Service Command." Married to Raymond Glen Young (class of 1939), mother of three girls and three boys. Became a widow in 1962. Tended new-borns for Children's Aid Society until moving to Brigham City in 1966. Married Merl Ivan Beecher, a widower with six children, in 1968. Took up duties as a wife of a dairy farmer. Has gained renown as lecturer on care and growth of flowers and plants. Won first place in essay contest "How Important Is the Farmer". Adopted a little boy, making a family of 13 children. Youngest son, Stanley Dale Young, was killed while bicycling to high school. In last six years three step-sons have filled missions. Grandmother of 15, step-grandmother of 11. NORMA BROWN McCARTHY 840 - 5th Street, West, Sonoma, California 95476 996-2284 Attended Weber College and Woodbury College in Los Angeles. Worked two years at Hill Air Force Base with the Corp of Engineers and two years in their Division Office in San Francisco. Married David A. McCarthy who just retired after 28 years as a correctional officer at San Quention State Prison. Spent 25 years as a bookkeeper and now retired. Home is in Sonoma, California, 45 miles north of San Francisco. Known as the Valley of the Moon, it is the home of Jack London, well known author, the Bear Flag, and St. Francis Solano Mission. Hobbies are gardening, visiting with people, especially senior citizens, and visiting children and grandchildren. One daughter lives in Southern California, one near Denver. ROBERT C. (BOB) BROWN 2509 South Garfield, Kennewick, Washington 99336 582-7854 After 321/4 years with Sears Roebuck & Company, retired January 1 of this year. Started in sales in Logan, Utah; transferred to Boise, Idaho as department manager, then to Tacoma, Washington as merchandise manager, to Portland, Oregon as merchandise manager. Became store manager in Walla Washington and later was transferred to Pasco, Washington to manage the store there. Met and married Pat Gregory in Tacoma. Two sons, Greg and Jerry, graduates of Central Washington University; one girl, Nancy, attending Washington State. Family sports minded. Children all single. (Do you have any prospects?) EUGENE F. Formerly district manager in life insurance, served as business manager for a psychiatrist and with North American Aviation/Rockwell International for the last 26 years. Traveled in Europe, Mexico, Hawaii, Canada. Divorced (formerly married to Nedra Lake), two daughters, one son, two grandchildren. Hobbies: travel, reading, swimming, dating! Met returned L.D.S. missionary, college man, and later married him - Chester Grobert Crowther. Secre"- tary to personnel officer at Ogden Arsenal for five years. Graduate of the Simmons Institute of Human Relations. Active L.D.S. Church. Served as Relief Society spiritual living teacher eight years. Primary and Sunday School teacher on ward and stake levels. Served as officiator at Ogden Temple. "Gave moral support to husband and father" while he served his country and fulfilled church callings, etc. Lived in Harrisville, Utah; Shelby, Ohio; San Bernardino, California and then to Mountain Green, Utah. Three sons, Jay, who works for Allstate Insurance and has five children; Victor, in contracting business and soon to be a father; Marvin, eligible bachelor still attend- college and working in real estate. RICHARD D. BURK 9292 Bailey Lane, Fairfax, Virginia 22031 691-1673 Employed by the government for 30 years. Currently with the Department of Defense in Washington, D. C. Will retire this year and return to Utah to resume hobbies of hunting and fishing. Married to Zenna Cluff (class of 1939). Two sons, Scott who is employed at Hill Air Force Base and Mike, now attending University of Oregon. ELVA I. BURNHAM TRACY 5055 Ben Lomond Avenue, Ogden, Utah 84403 479-7486 Attended business college and worked during World War II at Utah General Depot and the Corps of Engineers in Salt Lake City, then for many years in the business office of the Ogden Standard Examiner. Married to Arthur L.Tracy. Both now retired. Active in L.D.S. Church. Served in Relief Society presidency, taught many classes and served on Stake Board, currently being homemaking leader. Given many cooking demonstrations, latest for the Relief Society General Board in Salt Lake City. Two children, a son who is a professor and heads the accounting department at L.D.S. Business College in Salt Lake City. He and wife have three boys. One daughter who graduates this year from Bonneville High School. Hobbies: arts, crafts, sewing, grandchildren, camping and traveling. Live in South Ogden with a small farm in Uintah, raising horses, fruit and a garden. |
