Show September en Lomond 1, 1965 ets Shar} By DAVE KADLECK - Deseret News Sports Writer OGDEN—Ben Lomond wants a crack at Bountiful, Clearfield, Davis or Viewmont but may have to wait until the second week of November to get the chance. The Scots, tagged to win Region One Division Two’s title, don’t have a pre-season sched- ule due to an early league open: er. ae must win division marbles to qualify for a chance in Class A quarterfinal play. Be ompeiing for starting spots on new oe High School football team are ~ Warren Ware, Richard Schiffman, Allen Marler, Jack Bell, Ron Koga, above. Box Elder, Sky View, Logan and Bear River will have some say in Division Two’s title race - with Les Dunn’s Bees directing the biggest sting southward. Ben Lomond’s strength is not an individual thing. But the 15 Jettermen in Kapp’s lineup give lreason to believe his Scots have a chance. The Scots plan to run from an ‘I’ formation with speed its main asset. ‘“‘We’ve got to be fast,” Kapp said. “We’ re} small.” Weber should find it difficult to improve on last year’s 9-1 mark that netted them honors. Coach Richard Connelly has average team speed, a good passer in Rick Favero and big receivers in 6-3 Tim Chatelin, a 185 pound flanker and Favero who will take his passes from junior signal caller Terry Bailey. Wilf Chiletensen bi anoth’ year planned for his Ogd — have never Xe “We're not taking any teams lightly,”’ Scott mentor Hal pt said as he sent his touted crew) - through abbreviated scrimmage} sessions. Kapp’s comment was prompted by the knowledge that. Division One’s four-fold combo will preserit a stiff barrier as will Weber, Ogden, Bonneville and Roy—despite the split that is certain to dilude oldtimers Weber and Bonneville and newcomers Roy. |
