Friday’s schedule finds Bear River at Sky View; Logan at Weber; Box Elder at Roy, Ben Lomond at Ogden, and Bonneville draws a bye. The Lakers will host the Bountiful Braves in a practice. All these contests are scheduled for 8 p.m. Teams in Region Two and Region Five are still involved in pre-season tilts, and Friday finds their schedule as follows: Hillcrest at Davis; St. Joseph at Morgan; and Clearfield at eee The Falcons will also entertain Pleasant Grove in a game at Clearfield Saturday. Again, these contests are alt scheduled for 8 p.m. . WIDE-OPEN RACE It looks like a wide-open race in Region One as all nine teams appear to be similiar in strength and experience. Up north, the Bear River | Bears have a slight edge in experience over Sky View, Logan ‘and Box Elder. In the southern | division, it looks like a real dog- fight with Weber, teams from Ogden, Bonneville, Ben Lomond and Roy all having a chance ito grab all the marbles. The Ogden Tigers, with doeverything-well Stan Buchanan| leading the attack could go all the way if they come up with| a strong combination to assist the talented pivot-man. ~The Weber Warriors will likely go with an all-senior squad, and one that is big and rugged. COACHING PROBLEMS | Coach Ralph Crowtonat Roy has good height speed, problems, while but young has Bon- neville coach Scott Ballif has great potential, but little ex| perience. pe ~ Out Ben Lomond way, coach, ‘Don Dinsdale has a real gem in guard Sylvester Scott, but again its lack of experience and height that may slow down the Scots bid for the title. Veteran coach Durrell Hughes of Bear River has perhaps the best balanced squad in the Re gion. With the top scorer in ‘the league returning in center Rich- ard Jensen, and three additional letterman in Clark Garn, Jay Bowcutt and Lynn Rose, the Bears. will be tough to stop.. BACKCOURT ACE Box Elder coach Doug Stoker faces the old problem. of lack experienced men in the front In guard Ron line of fire. Munns, the Bees have one of the finest backcourt men in the state, but the youngsters on the Box Elder club will have ‘to come through if the Bees are to grab the top rung. ae All in all, it shapes up as another dog-fight with every team in the Region capable of dumping the other. | Pee |
