Show Composite Majors Program: Theatre Arts and English Composite Teaching Major (Theatre Arts Emphasis) I. General Requirements: A. Specific course requirements of the college (see index). B. Bachelor Degree General Education requirements (see index). Psychology 101 (5) in the Social Science area is recommended for Theatre Arts and English Composite Teaching majors. C. A minor is not required. D. Theatre Arts and English Composite Teaching majors must have a C or better in major courses. E. Theatre Arts and English Composite Teaching majors must achieve an overall 2.25 G. P. A. F. 183 total hours are required for this degree. G. Sixty of the 183 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). H. Students obtaining a Theatre Arts and English Composite Teaching major must satisfy the School of Education Certification Program (see Teacher Education Program). These courses must include the following: Education 195 fl), 300 (3), 350 (3), 363 (3), 462 (3), 364 (4), 495 (15), 499 (5). II. Specific Requirements: A. Theatre Arts 1. Minimum of 50 credit hours of Theatre Arts courses. 2. Theatre Arts courses required: Theatre Arts 111 (2), 112 (3), 113 (3), 114 (3), 115 (2), 116 (2), 117 (2), 125 (2), 241 (3), 315 (3), 343 (3), 401 (5), 411 (3), 412 (3), 415 (3), 420 (3), 471 (3), 499 (2). 3. All majors are expected to participate in each main season production by accepting at least one of the various assignments, such as acting, technical crew, costume crew, makeup, box office, house management, stage management, assistant director, or promotion. Also, it is expected that prior to graduation, each major will have performed duties in each of the various areas. These requirements are designed to ensure the breadth of experience commensurate with an undergraduate theatre education. B. English 1. Minimum of 35 credit hours of English courses. 2. English courses required: a. All of the following: English 236 (3), 321 (3), 324 (3), 329 (3); 381 (3) or 383 (3); 499 (2). b. One of the following: English 452 (3), 453 (3), 454 (3). c. One of the following. English 461 (5), 462 (5), 463 (5), 464 (5), 465 (5), 466 (5). d. One of the following: English 321 (3), 342 (3), 343 (3), 368 (5). 3. English courses to elect from (seven credit hours): English 225 (3), 235 (2), 330 (3), 331 (3), 341 (3), 342 (3), 343 (3), 350 (3), 355 (3), 358 (3), 360 (3), 367 (3), 370 (3), 372 (3), 373 (3), 374 (5), 382 (3), 388 (3), 475 (3), 483 (2-5), 492 J3). C. Support course required: Communication 102 (3). 58 Composite Majors ASIAN STUDIES MINOR PROGRAM The Asian Studies Minor Program is an interdisciplinary program offered through a number of cooperating departments including History, Political Science and Philosophy, Geography, Foreign Language, Economics, English and Honors. Program: Asian Studies Minor Gordon K. HarringtonCoordinator I. General Requirements: A. Courses taken which are part of the student's major will not count as fulfillment of the minor requirement. B. A grade of C or better for each course taken is required to fulfill the minor requirement. II. Specific Requirements: A. Twenty credit hours of courses must be taken from at least four of the areas listed below: 1. Economics 419 (3), 480 (1-5). 2. English 373* (3), 483 (2-5). 3. Geography 364 (5), 480 (1-5). 4. History 470 (5), 471 (5), 472 (5), 483 (1-2), 495 (1-5). 5. Political Science 384 (3), 385 (3), 483 (1-4), 491 (1-5). 6. Philosophy 355 (3), 483 (1-5). 7. Chinese 101 (5), 102 (5), 103 (5). 8. Short Courses, Workshops, Institutes and Special Programs, 292 (1-6), 491 (1-6). Available through departments listed above. *World LiteratureOnly when taught with Asian literature emphasis. Should other courses relating specifically to Asia, either of an experimental or of a permanent nature, be added to the curriculum, these courses will be accepted as part of the Asian Studies Minor Program. Should such courses be part ot an academic area not listed above the new academic area they will be added to those presently constituting the Asian Studies Minor. LATIN AMERICAN STUDIES PROGRAM The Latin American Studies Minor is an interdisciplinary program offered through a number of cooperating departments including Foreign Language History Geography, Political Science and Philosophy, Sociology and Anthropology, Psychology, Business and Economics. Students from academic areas not presently represented in the Latin American Studies Minor are welcome to participate. 59 |
