Show Academic Information High School graduation is desirable but not required. An applicant who is not a high school graduate must be 18 years of age or over, and receive the approval of the Admissions Committee and Department concerned. Regulations Normal Registration—Normal registration for any one quarter is 15 quarter hours, exclusive of one hour in physical education activities, usually taken each quarter of the freshman year. Maximum Registration—Maximum registration without special permission is 17 quarter hours, exclusive of one credit in physical education activities. A student may register for additional hours with the permisison of his advisor or the Dean of Students. A petition blank for additional hours may be obtained from the Registrar's Office. Exceptions are made where the student must meet requirements of a prescribed curriculum. (For example, engineering student registers for the courses outlined in the catalog even though the schedule prescribed is in excess of the maximum registration.) Attendance—Registration and enrollment presupposes regular attendance at recitations, lectures, and laboratory sessions. A student who is irregular in his attendance may be dropped from the class and given an "E" grade. Changes In Study Program—A student who wishes to make a change in his study program must do so before the end of the second week in a quarter. After the course has been in progress for two weeks, a student may not enroll in that course without special permission of the instructor and the Registrar. Withdrawal—To withdraw from a course, a student must fill out a change of registration card obtained from the Registrar's Office, have his advisor and Department Chairman approve it, and return the card to the Registrar's Office. a. If a student withdraws officially from a course during the first two weeks of a quarter, no entry will be made of the course on the permanent record. If withdrawal is made after the second week and before the end of the fourth week, a mark of "W" is entered in the record. b. Withdrawal from individual courses after the fourth week of the quarter and two weeks before the end of a quarter: 54 Academic Information (1) If a student is doing passing work in a course he may withdraw if such action is recommended by the teacher and the student's advisor. A grade of "WP" (withdrawn passing) will be assigned the class. (2) A student doing failing work in a course may withdraw if such action is recommended by the teacher and the student's advisor. A grade of "WF" (withdrawn failing) will be assigned each class so withdrawn. A "WF" (withdrawn failing) counts the same as an "E" grade in computing the grade point average. c. If a student discontinues a class during the quarter without officially withdrawing, he will receive a "UW" (unofficial withdrawal) in each course discontinued. A "UW" (unofficial withdrawal) indicates the student has not officially cleared with the college. "UW" will count the same as an "E" grade when computing the grade point average. d. When a student is dropped from a class because of unsatisfactory work, an "E" is recorded. Withdrawal From School—Students are permitted to withdraw from school except within the last two weeks of the quarter. Exceptions to this policy must be approved by the Dean of Students. A student who withdraws from Weber State College must obtain a withdrawal-from-school form from the Registrar's Office. This form must be approved by the Dean of Students and returned to the Registrar's Office. If a student withdraws from school within the first two weeks of the quarter, no entry will be made of any course on the permanent record. If withdrawal from school is made between the second week and fourth week of the quarter, a "W" is entered for each course registered. If withdrawal is made after the fourth week and a student is doing passing work, a "WP" will be recorded for each course so indicated by the instructor. If a student's work is below passing, as indicated by the instructor, a "WF" is recorded. Good Standing—A student is in good standing on Weber State College records who has been honorably released from the college and is eligible to return or to transfer to another school. Incompletes—Incompletes are permissible only when the student has been absent for illness or is delinquent for other thoroughly justifiable causes, and in such instances only when a grade of passing work prior to the absence is revealed by the class record.
