Show 11 FEBRUARY MONDAY FEBRUARY Home Town Pays Last Tribute at Wiley Post Rites Crowd Overflows Church at Funeral Services for Noted Flier MAYSVILLE, Okla., Aug. 21 (AP) Wiley Posts home town paid him its last tribute today, with simplicty and dignity. The quiet crowd that gathered from the farming countryside was far too large for the tiny church where the famed fliers body lay, and the brief service was conducted in front. The Maysville service was arranged to comply with the aged parents wish, so those who knew him long before he flew to fame might attend. The final rites will be at Oklahoma City tomorrow afternoon at almost the same time services are being held in California for Will Rogers, who died with Post in an Alaskan crash last Thursday. Brief Words Spoken Words were brief at the church today. W. E. Showen, the town editor, introduced Mac Q. Williamson, state attorney general, who lives at near by Pauls Valley. We who call this spot home are gathered here to pay solemn tribute of complete love, complete respect, complete confidence, to one of the best citizens of this valley, Williamson said. Speaking of the fatal crash, Williamson said, At first we couldnt believe it. Then the truth came home with verification. My friends, a lovable, noble, courageous soul has found rest and peace. Posts father and mother and brothers and sisters had not come from their farm when the body arrived from Oklahoma City with its I escort. They preferred to wait until the others, hundreds of them, had an opportunity to walk past the flagdraped bier. Crosson at Rites Joe Crosson, the Alaskan ace who piloted the plane that brought Rogers and Posts bodies to the United . States, was among the escort. Later he went to the parents farm. They had sent word to town they wanted to see him. When Williamson finished speaking, Showen, the editor, arose. He invited the people to walk past the bier. Many were in denim overalls, many in calico, some in their Sunday best. They gazed mutely at the country boy, who they said, never forgot he was one of them.
