Show Husbands and Wives Blamed Equally In Six Reasons for Marital Discord NEW YORK, Dec. 1 woman reduced the number of reasons for marital discord today to six. Men are to blame on three counts, women on three, she said. Perhaps because she edits cook books, Mrs. Ida Bailey Allen puts food preparation in each list. She took issue with the Rev. Ivan H. Hagedorn, of Philadelphia, who recently assigned 16 reasons why married couples quarrel. There are only six basic reasons for domestic bickering, Mrs. Allen contended. Men she held to account on these scores: 1. They dont give their wives an allowance. Incredible as it may sound, only one per cent of wives who dont work get money to spend on beauty treatments, clothes and other niceties. The rest squeeze a new dress and the price of a movie out of their household allowances, Mrs. Allen said. 2. Men insist on dominating the household. 3. They dont appreciate properly the amount of work and trouble a woman puts into fixing meals. Men rise late and hurry through breakfast, return home late and eat so fast they get indigestion and quarrelsome, or so much they get sleepy and tiresome. Womens contributions to domestic rifts she classified thus: 1. They dont practice real, honest to goodness economy at home. 2. They frequently have a confidential friend who listens to their little troubles and causes big ones. 3. A shocking number still cook badly, reducing good food to unspeakable messes. If every wife in America would rise 30 minutes earlier in the morning and start the day with a grand breakfast for her husband and with a magnificent smile, there would be a great deal more domestic harmony. Christmas Tree Tip Given Out By Foresters If you want to keep your Christmas tree fresh and green for at least a week longer, take this advice from the forest service: As soon as the tree arrives at your home, it should be set in water and kept there. If the base of the tree is trimmed with a sharp knife just before it is mounted the pores will be left open. This will allow water to rise in the stem to the living cells which are still trying to provide the tree with food and moisture. Spruce and fir trees retain needles longer than most other Christmas trees, according to forest service officials. Royal College of Physicians of Ireland Founded in 1660 by Dr. John Stearne. At its inception the college was an integral part of Trinity College, and still maintains a close connection with the university. Sir Patrick Dun, president at one time, founded and endowed the famous professorship of physic in the college. SIDE GLANCES By George Clark He doesnt seem to be very interested in whether Santa Claus brings him anything or not. |
