Construction Management Orientation (1) F This course provides an overview of the history of the U.S. construction industry with particular focus on the sodal, cultural, and economic trends, issues and events that impact and shape the industry and its occupations. The course is also designed to help students develop a clearer focus on their educational and occupational goals. (Available online) CMT 1150. Construction Graphics (3) F Students will gain knowledge of and experience graphical communications as used in the construction industry. Includes print reading and interpretation of all architectural, electrical, and mechanical systems diagrams. Residential and commerdal plans will be used. Residential Construction Materials and Methods (3) F The purpose of this course is to provide students with knowledge of residential building techniques and materials. The course will examine common construdion materials, components, and systems as related to wood frame structures. Applicable building codes are also discussed as they rdate to various materials and the methods of construdion for Utah. The residential construdion process will be analyzed from site planning to finish construdion. The course also indudes editing related specifications and determining cost estimates. Site visits and a glossary project will be used to document the construction process as well as show pradical applications of construction techniques. (Available online) CMT 1310. Commercial Construction Materials & Methods (3) 5 The purpose of this course is to provide students with knowledge of commercial building techniques and materials. Basic materials and installation methods for commercial construction are studied; which include Site-work, Concrete, Masonry, Metals, Curtain-walls, Finishes. Applicable building codes, written spedfications, and cost estimating will be discussed as they relate to these various construction methods. Students will build scale models or draw details of these construction methods, and make construction site visits to enhance thdr understanding of construdion techniques. (Available online) CMT 1500. Computer Applications in Construction (2) S Computer applications used in the construction field will be examined in areas of cost estimating, project scheduling, CAD design, and construction management. Various software packages will be introduced and examined specifically to their application in the construction industry. Prerequisite: TBE TE1700. CMT 2220. Construction Contracts and Specifications (3) 5 Students will gain knowledge in the legal aspects of contracts and bidding types of construction documents including bonds; interpretation of technical building specifications and their application to selection and installation of materials, equipment and systems. The Construction Specification Institute Index System (CSI) data base will be used. Students will study contracts and specifications as supplied by architects, government agendes, and professional contracting organizations such as the AGC (Association of General Contractors), ABC (Associated Building Contractors), and the NAHB (National Assodation of Home Builders).
