English majors and minors, English teaching majors and minors, English majors with professional and technical writing emphasis and professional and technical writing minors, and English majors with creative writing emphasis, in consultation with English department advisors, can sded programs individually designed to satisfy academic requirements. Furthermore, students preparing for careers in law, medicine, business, public relations and government service may find departmental courses highly beneficial. In addition, the Department of English has designed several courses essential to the general student, including programs in Introductory College Writing and English as a Second Language. Students transferring to Weber State as English majors, with most of their junior and senior status completed, are required to take a minimum of 9 upper division credit hours, minors a minimum of 6 upper division credit hours. This requirement also applies to transfer graduate students. English Composition Requirement Students seeking the Assodate of Applied Sdence degree must pass English EN1010 with a "C" grade (2.0) or better in order to satisfy the Composition requirement. Students seeking any other degree must pass both English EN1010 and EN2010 with "C" grades. Students placed in devdopmental English courses ND0900 and ND0955 must also pass those courses with "C" grades or higher. Please note that English composition courses, whether developmental or not, are sequential and can not be taken out of numerical order. English Placement Students are placed in the English developmental/composition sequence of courses dther by ACT sub-scores or by Accuplacer scores. ENGL ND0960 does not satisfy the Developmental English Requirement for students admitted to Weber State University after Fall Semester 2005. Students admitted after Fall Semester 2005 who take ENGL ND0960 will still be required to take ENGL ND0900 and/or ENGL ND0955, depending on tfiet English placement. Resident students for whom English is a second language who score 89 or below on the Accuplacer Test are required to take the ESL Placement Test and complete appropriate ESL courses according to the test results. ESL classes fulfill foreign language credit toward a BA and AA degree or elective credit toward a BS and AS deyee. Refer to the ESL section of this catalog following the English course descriptions. ESL English as a Second Language is a separate program within the English Department. See program description and listings following the list of English course descriptions. English Major bachelor's degree (bs or ba) » Program Prerequisite: Not required. » Minor: Required. » Grade Requirements: A 2.0 or better in all courses required for this major in addition to an overall GPA of 2.00 (C) or higher. » Credit Hour Requirements: A total of 120 credit hours is required for graduation - a minimum of 39 of these must be valid English courses. A total of 40 upper division credit hours is required (courses numbered 3000 and above) - a minimum of 36 of these must be English courses. Advisement English majors are required to meet with a faculty advisor at least twice annually for course and program advisement. General Education English majors may eled dther a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree as defined by this University catalog (refer to pages 37-43). The Bachdor of Arts degree is recommended.
