EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN II (PARAMEDIC) Evelyn Draper, Director Description: This is a new program under the direction of the Department of Nursing. At the completion of this program, the paramedic is trained in life saving techniques in a variety of emergency situations. Education: Enrollment is limited to twenty students and the length of the course is five months. Two classes are selected each year. Career Outlook: Employment within the state of Utah is with agencies authorized by the state to operate paramedic services. Salary is commensurate with the job description and the employing agencies. EXTENDED BACCALAUREATE NURSING PROGRAM University of Utah in Cooperation with Weber State College Elsie Simms, Director Assistant Professors, Janice Hassell, Elsie Simms; Instructors: Joanne Foran, Ruth Lamb, Veronica Larson. Description: Baccalaureate degree nurses provide within the health care system a vital, dynamic, evolving service that maintains and promotes the health of individuals and groups. The University of Utah College of Nursing through collaborative effort with Weber State College has extended the baccalaureate 80 Allied Health Sciences Nursing nursing to the Ogden area. Registered Nurses desiring to obtain a baccalaureate degree may do so through this program. Students interested in the program should contact the Director of the University of Utah College of Nursing Baccalaureate Degree Program, Room 607, Science Laboratory Building, Weber State College, Ogden, Utah 84408. Education: Completion of the Baccalaureate degree in Nursing prepares graduates to function in primary care roles, leadership roles, and to enter graduate programs for nurses. General education and pre-professional requirements may be completed at Weber State College, or any accredited university or college. Upon completion of the above requirements, students with a cumulative grade-point average of 2.80 or above and no grade lower than a "C" are eligible. Employment Outlook: The demand far exceeds the supply, and is expected to continue to grow more rapidly than qualified practitioners can be prepared. Related Careers: The B.S. degree nurse may elect to become a private practitioner, institutional worker, research assistant or world health organization practitioner. 81 |
